The Fed Fears a Bond Meltdown

By Daniel Lacalle

The money supply (M2) has bounced to March 2023 levels and has been rising almost every month since October last year. Furthermore, US government deficit spending has more than offset the decline in the Federal Reserve balance sheet. While the Fed’s balance sheet has shrunk by $1.5 trillion from its peak, the US government deficit remains above $1.5 trillion per year.

The money supply (M2) in the United States has bounced above March 2023 levels, while deficit spending offsets any Fed balance sheet reduction.

It is no surprise to read that the Federal Reserve has kept rates unchanged. Mr. Powell indicated that there are no rate hikes on the horizon, which was received with relief by market participants, but he also cast doubt about the expectations of rate cuts. However, the single most surprising message came when the Federal Reserve chairman announced that they would delay the quantitative tightening process.

UK wage growth resilient despite jobless rate rising to highest in nearly a year

Britain’s jobs market has cooled further after the unemployment rate lifted to its highest level for nearly a year, but pay packages continue to outstrip inflation thanks to resilient earnings growth.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the rate of UK unemployment rose to 4.3% in the three months to March, which is the highest since May to July last year and up from 4.2% in the previous three months.

In a further sign of that the employment sector is weakening, the ONS estimated that the number of UK workers on payrolls tumbled by 85,000 to 30.2 million in April – the largest fall since May 2020, although the ONS said this was subject to revision.

Surge in renters facing homelessness as landlords flee buy-to-let sector

Landlords continue to exit the private rented sector with many actively looking to reduce their buy-to-let portfolios, leaving thousands of renters facing potential homelessness.

Official figures show that more than 2,000 households a month are facing homelessness in England because private landlords say they are selling up, with some blaming uncertainty caused by government delays to renting reforms.

The data also reveals that of those facing eviction because the landlord is selling up, more than four in 10 families have asked councils for temporary housing

For those of you who do remember the Thatcher government, she started the sell off, the UK and took us down the slippery slope and has continued with the Governments that have followed, Yes people thought what a grand PM she was, but Gosh what a lot of damage she did in her reign of PM, The "Lady" was not for turning even if she was so wrong, but look at the legacy she left behind, and even Mr blair went to her for advice and look at the damage he did, At the time she must have thought it was the right thing to do sell off all the business etc, but in reality it was the start of the situation that the UK is in today.Worthless.

Another fine example of all that is wrong in Britain today..a country that has sold its soul for a few pieces of silver.
