Barclays braces for pressure from activist investor and climate campaigners

Barclays is facing intense scrutiny on two fronts as the bank prepares to release its annual results on Thursday, as the bank tries to shake off an activist investor and address campaigners’ concerns over its financing of fossil fuels.

You should shhh, you are amateurishly trying to ramp up a share, with no actual background or knowledge. Rather than look like the village idiot, DYOR and get into IC mag.

The city aren’t listening, this is a playground... the results will be what they are regardless of ‘U Dik’ and his close chum ‘Potty’ who seems appropriately named.

Diku, to be fair some of your recent posts have made you look foolish. Don't try and high and mighty, calling the Klot an arXe wipe. You lost the argument when you started name calling.

China will cover up Carona, Bloomberg already reported Wuhan has been stabilised - that’s all US investors want to hear as the fed put has their backs, Dow 30k is coming. JES was too smug at Davos I think we’ll have reasonable results.

Mr Staley said Barclays’ prime brokerage business, which services hedge funds, “continues to grow quite a lot of share” and had become the de facto choice for clients that did not want to do all of their business with a US bank.

Jes Staley: the last man in European investment banking

The strong performance of Barclays’ investment bank puts further pressure on Mr Bramson, the activist investor who amassed a large stake in the lender through his Sherborne vehicle and attempted, unsuccessfully, to force his way on to the board earlier this year.

Mr Bramson has been a critic of the investment bank, which he has described as a “black box with too much leverage” that acts as a “long-term depressant on Barclays’ valuation”. However, he has struggled to generate much support from other investors.

One adviser to Mr Bramson recently said the activist investor was looking for a “dignified exit” and could quickly sell his stake if a Brexit deal were to lead to a re-rating of Barclays’ shares. However, a spokesperson for Mr Bramson denied this.
