25/3/2015 16:21 | Barclays fell 2% to 253.2p after Investec analyst Ian Gordon downgraded the bank to 'hold' from 'buy', saying the shares were no longer as cheap as they once were | johnwise
25/3/2015 15:34 | Barclays downgraded by Investec StockMarketWire.com Investec has downgraded its recommendation on Barclays (LON:BARC) to 'hold' from 'buy', stating that the valuation case is no longer overwhelming. The broker added: "We believe Barclays' last "strategic reset" some 10 months ago had the effect of deferring its RoE>CoE aspiration until 2017e. "Unfortunately, following last week's sharp increase in the UK bank levy, to which Barclays has materially greater exposure than its UK domestic bank peers, we believe the timescale for RoE "normalisation" has now been pushed back even further - to 2018e." Investec also said that it thinks the banking groups dividend growth aspirations have, in effect, been deferred until 2016. Analysts have cut their target to 270 pence a share (from 295 pence), implying a forecast total return of 7.2 per cent. The shares are up twelve per cent in the last six months and up five per cent on a three-month view. | portside1

25/3/2015 12:08 | Most financial penalties have been paid or allowed for, so going forward this is a good share to hold. A recovering economy does so on the back of banks, and Barclays is a sound bank in which to invest, with a useful dividend. I'm long BARC. | andrewbaker

25/3/2015 09:40 | Barclays PLC fell 0.8% following a downgrade to hold from buy at Investec. The "valuation case is no longer overwhelming in the context of our deteriorating expectations for the scale and pace of [return on equity] recovery," wrote analyst Ian Gordon in a note. I never really pay much attention to brokers. I guess their views are as valid as any, but most seem to follow the movements in the share price rather than predict them. | dr biotech
