SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SANTANDER!!
After blocking my account for no reason at all (no unusual activity at all - all small grocery purchases by my wife etc.) I've had to call the bank 7 times from abroad. Been charged extortionate rates for their pathetic robot service, been cut off, been put on hold for upto 35 minutes+ several times and then having to finish the calls and call back. Finally I was told that they would call 'me' back first thing on Monday via my mobile number. I confirmed with the lady that the number was correct and told her that I fully expect them to 'not' call me, and that this bank is the most dreadful pathetic bank in existence. (It's a disgusting shame that their 'service' makes you rant at innocent employees this way).
Monday came and went and nobody called - par for the course. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SANTANDER!! Heed these warnings, it will save you an awful lot of distress and anger. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Get your money out of Santander QUICK!!
There is something definitely sinister going on with Santander.
They are blocking ordinary people's accounts left, right and centre for no good reason.
My account remains blocked despite multiple highly expensive & fruitless calls from abroad.
I was finally told via their 'support' online that I have to fill in a form and upload ID which I did. Days later.. account is still blocked!! I was then told via their online 'helper' that I must call that expensive number again, and so the circus must continue. Santander is an absolute DISGUSTING BANK!! As soon as my account is unblocked (if ever) I am withdrawing all funds to another bank. CLOSE YOUR SANTANDER ACCOUNTS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Closed my accounts and now life is much simpler!
This is just a heads up for all those other people who are being treated like sewage by Santander.
Close your accounts IMMEDIATELY!
Don't wait, don't procrastinate - just close your accounts and relieve yourself of all the unwarranted suspicion and contempt SANTANDER spit at you.
I banked with them right from way back in the Giro bank days and never asked to be brought along for the ride as the bank was sold to one carpet-bagger outfit after another, but SANTANDER really put the final nail in the coffin with obnoxious & criminal ease by constantly blocking my accounts and demanding more and more proof of identity - they treated me like a criminal for no reason and made banking with them as stressful as possible. I moved to Lloyds and so far it's been like night and day where simple ordinary service is concerned!! CLOSE YOUR SANTANDER ACCOUNTS!! ... before you lose your money! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
What went right? Well nothing.
I am a most dissatisfied customer, soon to be ex. As the holder of an easy access account I wished to make a withdrawal, Easy? not at all, met with a so called agreed safety limit, no such agreement was made.
Attempted to raise the limit and was promised a text. No such text arrived. Spent two hours with no luck, in the end got so fed up decided to close the account. Then revealed that they would retain my money.... Do not put your trust in this bank! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Santander have left me no access to money for food and essentials.
They have blocked my account. They say they don't know how long it will take to resolve so no food essentials paying bills transport to gp until whenever. I have health and disability issues and no surviving family to help, or anyone else they are fully aware of this all I get is sorry for inconvenience.
Do they think I will be capable of taking a phonecall after 7 days with no food etc?
I needed to see GP today, now I can't.
I'm not ' frustrated' I'm very upset distressed disappointed and HUNGRY already. This is utterly shameful. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Absolutely atrocious service
Absolutely atrocious service, randomly put a block on my account without notifying me then played pass the parcel with my call for over an hour. Will be looking to switch bank. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Santander have stolen my money
Santander have and still remain to put a hold upon my BUSINESS account for a week now but wont elaborate as to why, (slightly concerning no?). Apparently according to multiple members of various phone departments, there is allegedly a super secret department that no one inside the bank can contact via phone or any other forms of commication other than by email. conveniently no one other than their employees are allowed to contact them despite them alledgedly being the only people in the entire company who have any knowledge of how to reslove these form of situations.
So be careful this bank will steal your money.
A week later and no help despite constant promises of getting in touch within a 48 hour time frame. no money, little guidance but at least they have the time forcibly close on going complaints. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Santander stole from me.
They really are an abysmal company staffed by lying scumbags, but sadly the financial ombudsman is as much use as a chocolate fireguard too. After 14 years of crooked tory MPs removing regulation the shameless thieves in companies like Santander think they can get away with murder. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Worst & rudest online banking experience ever.
My terrible experience with this company defies all logic. I’ll try briefly explain… I had money paid into my account from my partner through their Stripe account to buy something. A few weeks later I tried to transfer the same amount of money from my account back to their account. We had all the correct details but Santander wouldn’t accept this & treated it like a scam, blocking the account access!
When we called the number (after 45 minutes waiting) I can genuinely say we spoke to the most obnoxious human being imaginable. Instead of helping us she treated us both like criminals & was extremely arrogant, aggressive & condescending. We were shocked to say the least as all we were doing is transferring our own hard earned money between our accounts. (She hadn’t even heard of Stripe, a competitor of PayPal - Someone who works in banking???) I do understand they are fighting scammers but this was a husband & wife transferred a couple of hundred quid to each other!
After a 20 minute heated conversation where I got her to research Stripe she finally yielded, changed her attitude quickly & realised she was very wrong, removed the block on the account & tried to transfer the money for us but did we get an apology? Nope.
This was the single worst experience I’ve had of online banking & would never recommend anyone trust this company with their money! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Banked with them for over thirty years…
Banked with them for over thirty years (Abby National etc) hardy ever withdrawn - every time I try and withdraw it's like pulling teeth. Put money in OK - Take money out - IT problems, online banking fails, accounts locked...Now want to leave - but can't get my money out. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Pathetic service
Been trying to withdraw money from a Stocks and Share ISA for 2 weeks and move it to my main bank to pay for some home improvements - like banging my head off a brick wall.
Update the delay is costing me an extra £1000 as the offer expires today. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Trying to move money from my Santander account
Trying to move money from my Santander account to my own account in another bank. 40 minutes on the phone and counting, following referral to the fraud team! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Harassed my daughters on asking for cash from their own accounts, Also had the audacity to call the police when being questioned about their conduct by myself? |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Absolutely appalling service
Absolutely appalling service. Froze my account out of the blue. They had made a mistake and had not communicated with me. Then a wait of one hour and 10 minutes on hold today to try to remedy. Long telephone call. Then they did NOT remedy. Do not bank here under any circumstances. |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Appalling
Appalling. Have just frozen my client account for no reason. This follows the bank alleging that they had not received updating confirmation of my identity since 2013 (not true - they had updating confirmation in 2022). I promptly provided updating confirmation and within the 7 day window that they gave me - BUT my account has been frozen regardless. Avoid this bank like the plague. |
SANTANDER IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE? LOOKS LIKE IT!:
Try to make an online transaction or transfer, they block you and lock your account!
Try to use your debit card, they block it!
They don't give switchers the switch fee!
Try to take your own cash out in branch, they stop you!
Insist on taking your own cash out, they call the police on you!
Conclusion - They are short on money! The next #NorthernRock?
Get out while you can, IF you can! |
SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
We are a small business and Santander have frozen our accounts with c £150,000 in it leaving us unable to trade .... No one in customer service can do anything about it / cares. |

SANTANDER CUSTOMER'S EXPERIENCE:
Internet access blocked
I used bacs as usual online, the payment was stopped on the grounds it may be a scam, well for me it was not, I had had my roof done to my satisfaction and was happy to pay, ok I said forget it no harm done. I will pay him cash, no you can’t they said we will not give you that amount of money. They blocked my internet access, they admitted I had not broken any law or any of their rules, I got it back the next day, but never again, be warned, you can not trust Santander with your money.

A short trip to France shouldn't be a problem should it? Day 2, my card is blocked when attempting to buy petrol, ring Santander. Next day, card blocked again in cafe. Day 4, my card is charged twice for the same purchase of petrol. Absolute nightmare, time to change banks I think!
