08/8/2017 11:35 | Another transfer from exchange to hardware wallet this morning was confirmed in about 3 minutes with an even lower fee than yesterday for almost double the amount of BTC. What does that suggest? 1. The transaction went straight into a block that was in the process of being mined. Therefore transaction capacity is high or volume of transactions is low or a combination of both. 2. SegWit may or may not be being implemented - and having an effect on block capacity - by whichever miner was working on that block (because SegWit hasn't been cemented as a prerequisite yet) but the low transaction fee suggests to me that miners have shifted towards accepting that increased settlement rates and lower fees will prompt a sharp increase in transactions (i.e. a move towards wider adoption) by opening up access to the "unbanked" in line with the founding principles of speed and trivial cost. So far as transaction volume is concerned it looks (from price charts) as though we are seeing average-to-low daily volume when compared with the last couple of months. Therefore my view is that some investors/traders are holding back until SegWit is officially confirmed and the transfer of hashing power from BCH back to BTC is providing sufficient evidence that the main chain will be confirmed as the BTC one. - ref: Bitcoin magazine today: "ViaBTC hash power pointed to the Bitcoin Cash (Bcash) chain has dropped about tenfold over the past days, from some 260 petahash to 26 petahash. Most of the pool's hash power is back mining on the Bitcoin chain." see also Does anyone see this in a different light? | compoundup
08/8/2017 09:28 | Andy A hardware wallet is one of the safest. Read this commentary on the recent fork event in the context of wallets to see the contrast: If you would like to see an illustration of how robust, resilient and reconstruct-able a hardware wallet can be I recommend typing this search into youtube home page for an 8 minute video introduction by a user (i.e. not the manufacturer's own promotion): YI1OntWB7wc | compoundup
07/8/2017 20:48 | BCH never thought we'd see 400 again | alexx
07/8/2017 17:59 | compoundup, Is it not dangerous to use a hardware wallet? I thought if you lose the password or the computer it's stored on then you lost the funds too, or has that changed now? | andy
07/8/2017 17:45 | Transferred some BTC from an exchange wallet to my hardware wallet today. Confirmations done within 30 minutes and enjoyably very low fees. Evidence of the benefit of SegWit is tangible less than a week after the split. | compoundup
07/8/2017 16:55 | I see Bittylicious are offering the opportunity to buy using RBS/Natwest "Pay Your Contacts" service from a mobile phone. Seeing that a competitive price was on offer for 0.03 BTC I thought I would try it out. The mobile app reported: "This payee does not accept this form of payment". Fat lot of good that is! | compoundup
07/8/2017 16:12 | kraken handed out my bch. I sold what I had and then bought back and some more. at the time bch looked like it would move up before btc. I were wrong. i'll buy some if btc shows some weakness. | mcbeanburger
07/8/2017 13:16 | McB - I assumed you had sold BCH on Kraken, did you sell real coins. I have the private key for mine but couldn't find how/where to sell. Having said all that with BTC and BCH both going up there's no problem. If BCH is rising when most people are able to sell then they probably won't. Added spread bet with IG at 3353 about an hour ago. | alexx
07/8/2017 12:33 | btc - moving up | mcbeanburger
07/8/2017 12:29 | anyway don't think kraken is setup for shorting bch. best to check beforehand | mcbeanburger
07/8/2017 12:07 | combined price over $3,500 per coin TP must be crying ;) | spadman
07/8/2017 11:19 | Alexx - In principle I like your idea of shorting BCC to cancel out the risk of an offline holding but I question the carry cost. Also the "KYC" requirement of US based/regulated exchanges such as Kraken represents a complication IMO; one that seeks to negate the high principles of decentralisation, anonymity, security (yes!), etc. | compoundup
07/8/2017 03:13 | i were early... | mcbeanburger
06/8/2017 18:48 | Have opened a Kraken account, not verified yet. May short BCH/BCC on there to cancel out my BCH that I have been given. Could be wrong but ... | alexx
06/8/2017 15:44 | kraken is where I sold and bought... market seems deep enough | mcbeanburger
06/8/2017 10:05 | Any suggestions as to where/how best to sell BCC? | compoundup
