Tourn,
I'm in the process of liquidating and moving stuff offshore.
:) |
1) I'm reasonably confident that BAe is a good long term investment.
2) However, I'm even more confident that politicians are capable of screwing things up.
I've been caught out in the past by significant reversals in the wider market or in sectors where I have exposure because I've been over confident of point 1 and have under-estimated the risk of point 2.
On a number of occasions I've protected myself against risks that I've identified by liquidating much/most of my holdings and have thereby dodged several bullets. These days I'm less inhibited about taking cover early.
Just thinking out loud here...... |
I agree with Ayl, unfortunately i cannot see world peace breaking out any time soon. Good for BA, sadly. |
Yes but both parties seem to still stick to an increasing % of GDP going to defence so perhaps not an issue. US seems to be wanting to spend more on defence, almost a global arms race to reequip. Think this will remain solid investment for some years to come. A peaceful world would be bad for BA, sadly it seems a distant prospect |
I'm thinking about the likely impact of a Labour Government on BAe and other defence sector shares (and other sectors too). I've only been invested here for 2 and a bit years - since the day Russia crossed the Ukrainian border. Since then I'm about 100% up. I had been assuming that this stock would continue to provide a good return even from the current level.
But... would it make sense to exit now and sit on the sidelines until the election dust settles?
I'm about to go off grid for the next 3 weeks, and will not be able to monitor things closely and/or react quickly during that time.
Decisions, decisions..... |
BAE Systems is moving into a busy few months of flight-testing involving numerous enhancements for the Eurofighter Typhoon, as it also continues to eye further export opportunities for the type.
Among the equipment due to get airborne in the coming weeks is the Leonardo UK ECRS Mk2 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, BAE’s Striker II helmet-mounted display, and a developmental replacement mission computer. |
CV90, Again!
BAE Systems signs contract with Sweden for new CV90 combat vehicles
BAE Systems has signed a contract with the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, FMV, for new CV9035 MkIIIC vehicles, as well as associated integrated logistic support.
This new contract will provide new-build CV90s to help replenish the Swedish Army’s fleet. These new CV9035 MkIIICs will replace CV9040 vehicles donated to Ukraine by the Swedish government. In addition, the Swedish government is procuring more new-build CV90 vehicles to expand Ukraine capabilities. The contract will provide the opportunity for other nations to join in the procurement of CV90MkIIICs. |
Comprehensive electric vehicle system showcased, demonstrating climbing ability and speed for commercial vehicles BAE Systems, a leader in electric propulsion, and Eaton, a global power management company, successfully tested their integrated electric drive system for medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks. Using this technology, existing truck models can be easily adapted across various zero-emission applications, improving efficiency, performance, and flexibility.
Testing occurred at Eaton’s proving grounds in Marshall, Michigan on a Class 7 demonstration vehicle. The vehicle met key on-road performance goals, including gradeability and highway speed, all within a single electric vehicle (EV) system. The compact system helps increase electrical efficiency and reduce vehicle weight. |

Dual Band Decoy is a cutting-edge RF self-protection jammer that shields fighter jets from enemy attacks. BAE Systems has been selected by the U.S. Navy to develop Dual Band Decoy (DBD), one of the most advanced radio frequency (RF) countermeasures in the world. DBD is a cutting-edge RF self-protection jammer that shields fighter jets from enemy attacks. |
A new weapon that uses radio waves to disable enemy electronics and take down multiple drones at once is under development for the UK’s armed forces, and it only costs 10p per shot. |
DARPA program aims to solve thermal challenges limiting electronic warfare systems The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded BAE Systems’ FAST Labs™ research and development organization a $12 million contract for the Technologies for Heat Removal in Electronics at the Device Scale (THREADS) program.
The DARPA THREADS program aims to overcome the temperature limits at the transistor scale inherent to power-amplifying functions. With new materials and approaches to diffusing the heat that degrades performance and mission life for monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), THREADS aims to resolve the thermal management challenges of today’s gallium nitride (GaN) devices. |

You have to consider today's 3% drop in the context of the 95% rise of the past few years. It's just a minor ripple. |
It's fairly volatile for a large cap |
Surely it's simply a little bit of profit taking resulting in the share price consolidating a bit. Nothing goes up in a straight line. |

Un-jammable quantum technology takes flight to boost UK’s resilience
It is hoped the quantum-based systems could help flights from being hit by GPS jamming.
...... The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) said that Infleqtion, a quantum technology firm, has been working with aerospace companies BAE Systems and QinetiQ on the project. |
"Berenberg: Momentum not slowing at BAE" Higher defence spending in a world of increased conflict has provided both momentum and visibility for BAE Systems (BAES), says Berenberg.
Analyst George McWhirter retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of £13.60 on the Citywire Elite Companies AAA-rated defence group, which added 0.8%, or 10.5p, to £13.92 after a positive trading update.
McWhirter said the group pointed to ‘strong operational performance’ this year and ‘high visibility for top-line growth, margin expansion and cash generation in the coming years’.
‘Full-year guidance is unchanged, which is not a surprise, although we are encouraged to see evidence of continued momentum building across the group, including through further progress on the AUKUS trilateral security pact (between Australia, UK, and the US) and high order intake, which bodes well for sustained mid-term growth,’ he said.
The high defence spending across all sectors and key markets sustained ‘order momentum and ‘the US supplemental aid package to Ukraine and the UK government’s commitment to spend 2.5% of GDP by 2030 on defence is expected to build further positive momentum’.
The group also extended its share buyback programme by another £1.5bn, which will commence on completion of the current £1.5bn programme. |
