One thing Becks does have is a world-class first touch . He controls the ball instantly .
If Owen had that touch he would be a far better player . Passing to Owen is like bouncing the ball off a wall on a bad day .

Agree about central role . Moving him there instead of Veron made sense , although it would mean taking a big loss on Veron and Fergie admitting buying him was a mistake .

Be very interesting to see how Beckham goes next year ..

Stam is a regular for Lazio , who finished 4th in Italy last year , so its mainly lack of CL success that makes it look like he`s doing nothing .

Played 30 times last year , out of 34 League fixtures .

rose tinted specs on......if Blanc really was as good with the youngsters as has been said, then we'll reap the benefits over the coming seasons, so it may prove to be good business.

Somehow, I doubt it though.

Not sure about Ronnie, altho if anyone can accomodate and control a potentially disruptive influence it's Ferguson. Ronnie is reported as being Laporta's latest target. I suspect the lure of sunshine may be too attractive.....

So will Fergie end the close season with a few million in the bank? Now that would be bad....

Thats partly true although if he had stayed presumably things may been different .

Fact that half clubs in Premier would welcome him says plenty .

As with Becks , move depends on who replaces the guy you kick out .
Blanc made the Stam deal bad business .

The Beckham deal depends on who we get in .

Ronaldinho , Queresma to replace Becks and Lucio at back and no one could say it was bad business .

Theres so much newspaper bull at mo that until someone signs it means nothing .

Plus a lot these players dont perform well in England , thats problem .

South Americans have bad record of success in Premier .

May is out contract this summer , i think .

Stam ??

How was he right to dump Stam ?
I think thats one reasons we didnt build on CL win in Europe .

Blanc .. jeez .. he may be good with younger players but that was a disaster .

I reckon there is some top spinning going on by Beckham`s lot .

The word is he refused to discuss an extension to his contract and Beckham`s advisors were talking to the top Euro clubs .

That last appearance at OT Beckham definitely knew a move was on .

If thats the case Utd did the right thing . 2 years left on contract is right time to do business .

Look at Leeds . Kewell would be a £10 mill+ player with 2 years left . With only 1 year left he will probably go for £5m .

Liverpool and Leeds have lost out big ...McManaman and Bowyer for nothing so who knows .

I would be happy with £25 mill but £18m plus bonus looks cheap . Real will get that back commercially , assuming Beckham gets in team ....

Rigel

The only certain thing about this saga is that Fungus has proven he can't manage well-paid superstars. Some United supporters think he's the gtearest manager of all time! lol!

He's good at bullying kids though with his rotweiller Keane to help him.

Fungus is a lucky fool. Always was, always will be.

United only have two good players left now; Giggs and Van Mist. How long before they click on that Fergie is all hype and bluster and move on?

Giggs is the only United player I'd have at Liverpool. He's welcome anytime as far as i'm concerned.

For once in my life, I'm trying to be objective, coz I like the soft c*nt but £20 million seems cheap for Beckham even if he is past his sell by?

Millions of manc reds think of Beckham first and Manchester United second.

Perhaps therein lies the truth? A fat old jock just wants the limelight?

The question is .. can Beckham get in the Real team ?

Raul and Ronaldo are two of the top strikers .

Apparently he will play centre midfield with Makelele with Zidane and Figo wide .

Cant see Zidane pushed out on left personally .

Zidane..Makelele..Beckham..Figo

Cant say it makes me think Real are stronger..

Utd are weakened though , depending on who comes in .

Beckham 'joins Real Madrid'

England captain David Beckham has reportedly signed for Real Madrid in a £22m deal.
According to the Spanish press, the Manchester United midfielder has agreed a four-year deal with the European giants.

And Beckham's representatives SFX have told the BBC that "the deal is imminent if not concluded".

Beckham's future has been the source of intense media speculation in recent weeks, with a number of top clubs interested in capturing the 28-year-old.

Barcelona had seemingly stolen the initiative over their Spanish rivals as well as the likes of AC Milan and Inter by agreeing a deal with Manchester United.

But Real Madrid swooped late to lure Beckham to the Bernabeu, where he will play alongside Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Raul.

Manchester United are refusing to confirm or deny whether Beckham has signed for Real Madrid but hinted there could be an announcement before 2100 BST.

The player is currently embarking on a tour of the Far East having just returned from the United States.

News of Beckham's move to Real Madrid will come as a bitter blow to fierce rivals Barca - and new president Juan Laporta in particular.

Laporta based his whole presidential campaign on his promise that he would bring the world's most high-profile footballer to the Nou Camp.

Manchester United are expected to step up their bid to bring Ronaldhino to Old Trafford and will use the rest of the money they receive for Beckham to strengthen their squad.

At least one ex Manc can see where the future of club footy lies?

Robson: Gerrard the key for England

Former England skipper Bryan Robson believes that in-form midfielder Steven Gerrard should captain the side in the absence of David Beckham.

This follows some outstanding post-season displays for the national side from the influential Liverpool star, who remains unbeaten in the white of England.

Robson believes that Gerrard should be preferred as stand-in skipper to club-mate Michael Owen, purely on positional grounds.

He said: "I think the captain should be a defender or a midfielder because they have a greater influence.

"When David isn't there Steven would be my choice. He is now the key player for England."
