29/3/2010 14:45 | I think its just repeating the previous statements which say they have a contract right to use either rocket - which is one of the advantages of Arianespace - their fleet gives you options (I used to say the same thing about BA ....). Right, off for a much deserved game of golf now Spring has Sprung and FTSE is safely nestled above 5600 am going to stop thinking about portfoio for a while....... | terryebby
29/3/2010 13:48 | This small fall may be due to uncertainty caused by a shift to Q3 for launch. I did like this part of the RNS though: "With the launch of HYLAS 1 scheduled for the third quarter of this year with Arianespace on Soyuz (or the alternative Ariane 5) we look forward to upgrading our valued customers in Northern Ireland to higher service levels." Notice they've specifically mentioned an Ariane 5 rocket as an alternative to Soyuz. That may be tied in to the bulletin board comments, referenced by that earlier post last week, suggesting the Soyuz rocket may not be ready by September. Looks like Williams is seriously gunning for September; no matter which launch vehicle happens to be available at the time. Personally, I find this encouraging. ;) | ![]() jimbo55

29/3/2010 07:17 | RNS Number : 2903J Avanti Communications Group Plc 29 March 2010 Date: 29 March 2010 On behalf of: Avanti Communications Group plc ("Avanti" or "the Company") Embargoed for release: 0700hrs Avanti Communications Group plc Contract Extension Avanti Communications Group plc (AIM: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, is pleased to announce that it has received a contract extension from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment in Northern Ireland, which will increase the budget available for the provision of satellite broadband services across the region to those who cannot currently access broadband services by other means. The boost in available budget has been agreed due to an unforeseen increase in demand for satellite broadband services in the region and will ensure that those living and working in areas where the market has not yet made landline broadband connectivity widely available will continue to have access to broadband services at reasonable cost. Commenting, David Williams, Avanti Chief Executive, said: "We are always delighted to see contracts increased or extended as it is an expression of satisfaction on the part of our customer with the technology and service we offer, as well as an indication of the expansion of our market. With the launch of HYLAS 1 scheduled for the third quarter of this year with Arianespace on Soyuz (or the alternative Ariane 5) we look forward to upgrading our valued customers in Northern Ireland to higher service levels." ---ENDS--- | ![]() someuwin
26/3/2010 10:14 | Why a huge jump in Avanti's share price is imminent BY TOM BULFORD Dear Reader, Yesterday I had lunch with AVANTI COMMUNICATIONS (AVN) CEO, David Williams. He let me in on a little detail about his company that you're really going to want to know about. Avanti is in my Red Hot portfolio with good reason. It dominates a niche sector. It is selling in a huge and expanding market. And it has projects in the pipeline that can only strengthen its position. At the moment, its shares are an absolute steal. And what I heard over lunch made that all the more obvious. In the near term I have strong hopes that Avanti will report more progress in forward sales of its satellite transmission capacity. There is a huge demand for services that can transmit digital data. Whether it's telecom companies struggling to provide online videos on phones. Or TV networks looking to broadcast this summer's World Cup across the globe. Avanti is in pole position to answer this demand. It already has the satellite in place to deliver broadband services to customers. Its competitors have not. And since it takes three years to build a satellite and get it up in the sky, this is a competitive advantage that Avanti is going to have for quite a while. Why investors could pile into Avanti in September So the company is sitting pretty. But things should really get moving in September. This is when we should see the launch of Avanti's Hylas-1 satellite. This was what David was so excited about when I spoke to him. Here's why... The launch of Hylas-1 is a big step forward for Avanti. David knows that, if successful, it could mean a new level of profitability for the company. In fact, investors already have their hands in their pockets... David told me that several City investors were poised to inject serious money into the company, but were waiting for the launch of Hylas-1 before they did so. All they are waiting for is news that the launch has been successful. I know from talking to people like David that the risk of a botched launch is minimal, so what we're looking at is a strong likelihood that a glut of investor cash is set to come Avanti's way around September time. Quite how much this will boost the share price is anyone's guess. But suffice to say for now that the current weakness in the share price represents an irresistible investment opportunity, so BUY UP TO 550p. | terryebby

26/3/2010 01:22 | It'll double from here til launch date imo so those with a nervous disposition could sell half week before launch and still be in for free. Will add another 50% in weeks after a successful launch (again imo) but if it blows up on the pad we may have a problem :-) Good luck guys. | ![]() dil
26/3/2010 00:00 | darl - yes, that's true...if the satellite fails then the price fall will be ugly but more get into space than don't...although I'm sure the recent failure of the global warming satellite will be still be raw in some quarters. Not a share without risk but if it does get into space, and they do sell the space, then this will be much higher come this time next year. S | ![]() smarm
25/3/2010 22:19 | everlastin , As I understand it if you sell shares and buy the same shares again within 30 days the repurchased shares are counted for CGT purposes as the first element of the shares sold previously in the 30 day period . The idea being to prevent you from doing what you are attempting to do i.e minimise the CGT liability . I am no tax expert so others on here may know better ! As always no advice intended and DYOR !! | ![]() par555 |
