You may want to consider withdrawing your subscription, or at least threatening to, in light of the fact that ADVFN own Shareprophets and therefore you are subsidising the like of Simon Cawkwell and Tom Winnifroth to trash your shares!

sg, do bear I mind that Avanti is not a sweetie shop so a new customer can't be someone who simply buys a packet of mints.

"the first half saw Avanti sign 40 new contracts, of which 26 were new customers and 14 were repeat customers"

26 new customers doesn't sound like many in 6 months. Hope they are all exceedingly large.
We really need to see some figures to be sure it's enough.

Today's news builds on a strong run for Avanti in terms of contract momentum of late. In addition to deals announced in recent months, the first half saw Avanti sign 40 new contracts, of which 26 were new customers and 14 were repeat customers, with all the firm's four core application markets - Enterprise, Government, Carrier Services and Broadband - showing good progress during the period. Following a period of weak investment for the telecoms industry, Avanti has taken care to structure contract proposals to make doing business with Avanti as low risk as possible. The contract volumes exhibited of late are testament to the success of this strategy, and although small contracts do not add greatly to backlog, providing good service to high quality telcos is likely to result in enduring business relationships that build backlog over time with multiple repeat orders and extensions.

We retain the view that Avanti is potentially a highly valuable business, although the investment horizon is protracted and therefore subject to considerable risks - most notably the low confidence in forecasts due to the high levels of uncertainty in predicting the timing and magnitude of future income. However, it is also worth bearing in mind that the satellite slots Avanti owns could ultimately support up to 20 satellites, making the long-term upside potentially significant. "Speculative buy", at 293.75p.

I wondered if they had lowered the bar for RNS'ing contracts since we have had so many all of a sudden but maybe it's less the $1m "initial" revenue and more the $10m "opportunity" over 3 years that makes the Avonline deal news worthy?

Broadband services group Avanti Communications has signed a multi-million dollar contract extension with Avonline broadband to target European consumers with new satellite broadband.

The UK-based satellite group said the new deal will provide a series of tailored broadband solutions to customers across Europe. Avonline will offer primary broadband connections arranged by Avanti's HYLAS 1 and HYLAS 2 satellites.

Avanti recently entered an agreement with Turkish telecom operator, ESER Telekom, to deliver its satellite broadband coverage in the Middle East.

Managing Director Mark Wynn said: "Avonline is pleased to announce a significant contract extension with Avanti.

"We have worked closely to create a series of unique satellite broadband packages that are tailored to meet the specific service requirements of our growing customer base.

"These packages provide an instant broadband solution for the important minority of homes and businesses that remain neglected and un-serviced by the traditional providers."

Yes, I'm happy to wait for results as they are the ultimate determinant. Whilst lots of moderately sized contracts come with an overhead they also provide diversification in the customer base and protection against default or cancellation. It enables us to have the pricing leverage over the customer, give or take the actions of competitors.

More tactically a solid announcement would allow watchers, whether they are shareholders or not, to take shares. I think there are likely to still be lots of stale bulls who would like to rotate out. The 300-330 range allows those who bought at the lows to exit having doubled up, and any who are underwater to get out with a reasonable proportion of their capital left.

Looking at the long term chart I would say there is a bowl just about forming and we look to be in a macro uptrend. Earnings growth and a share price trend acting together is a combination worth being on board with.

I would have to agree. I hadn't read the Cenkos take on the contract before I posted. I had thought that that contract would equate to a bit more than $1m. (Not sure that really justifies an RNS) I just hope that that Vodaphone contract was worth more!

Still as you say, let's see what the next update brings.

The Zim contract at $1m isn't that significant. OK it might grow but at present it's not exactly a company maker.

Let's see what the next update brings.

As you say it is hard to get a precise idea of the size of these contracts, but if they are announced as RNS you can be fairly sure they are reasonable 7-figure contracts. If memory serves Williams had previously said they would stop issuing RNSes if they weren't materially significant. The one today makes that the 4th since they announced results just over two months ago. If you look back to RNSes previously to this, this is the best run we've had for contracts. In fact we haven't had any contract related RNSes for 2 years!

Usually contracts aren't of sufficient size to warrant an RNS, of which they've also had 6 in the last two months, and are usually just announced on their web-site. But having 4 in such a short spate of time must be significant. If only for changing the trend on backhaul which had been the back bone of previous downgrades and attacks by derampers.

It will be an interesting update in two weeks time.

From CenkosAVANTI COMMUNICATIONS (AVN LN 294p, £329, Buy, Cenkos Brokership) has announced a major contract extension this morning with leading UK-based satellite broadband company Avonline Broadband. The contract has a multi-million dollar value and will provide a series of tailored broadband solutions to consumer and enterprise (SME) customers across Europe utilising capacity on HYLAS 1 and HYLAS 2. Avonline is already providing satellite broadband services to its enterprise customers in partnership with Avanti and this will now be extended to home users; the win is testament to the quality of Avanti's service and technology offering relative to the competition (nb Eutelsat is also a supplier to Avonline). Today's news follows on from the contract win announced earlier this week - secured in the face of competition from multinational satellite providers - that will see TelOne (Zimbabwe's national 'incumbent' telecom carrier) roll out broadband services to its customers; in many emerging markets the lack of fixed line/fibre telecoms infrastructure means satellite services represent the only commercially viable mechanism of delivery. The contract will initially deliver revenues of c.$1m but the opportunity over the next three years could be 10x this amount. We continue to see the valuation case at Avanti as a compelling one especially given the EV of the Group currently is only broadly a reflection of the build costs of the satellite fleet. As HYLAS 1 and HYLAS 2 demand ramps over the next 3-5 years, EPS of 50p and beyond is a realistic target; something which is clearly not reflected in the current share price despite a 50% bounce from February lows.

I understand that they can't release the size of contracts, but as Count Chris says,it sounds like they are keeping their clients happy and it's all adding up. Let's hope that we get a trading update soon showing that AVN is heading in the right direction at last.

The contract wins are good but never any figures attached so we are still in the dark. On the plus side though it's clear they are able to provide a professional service with all the business they are getting. Just hope the numbers are adding up.
