07/7/2011 09:09 | These types of contracts confirm that AVN is a lot more than about broadband for individuals. ISIC selects Avanti for back-up communication services Monday 4 July 2011 | 11:12 CET International Space Innovation Centre (ISIC) has selected broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications as the sole provider of back-up communication services for its Security and Resilience Unit (SRU) at Harwell, UK. The SRU specialises in providing satellite imagery for emergency and security agencies to support their operations. High speed communication links are essential to the unit and the Avanti installation, which uses its Hylas 1 satellite, enables that services can be maintained if the SRU's primary fibre-optic cable connection is lost. In a world of terrorism and multiple natural and other disasters, satellite is the only game in town. | ![]() restassured

06/7/2011 09:26 | This is very interesting! An interactive map published by Ofcom today shows huge swathes of the UK (over 15%) can't get fixed line above 2mbs! ( Its part of a report published by Ofcom on the current state of fixed broadband and the map uses actual data provided by communications providers about the UK's broadband infrastructure. Ofcom blurb below: "Ofcom has today launched the UK's first interactive map of fixed broadband, using actual data provided by communications providers about the UK's broadband infrastructure. Ofcom is required to submit a report on the UK's communications infrastructure to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport every three years. As the first stage of meeting our infrastructure duty, Ofcom is publishing the online map, which allows users to zoom in and out of administrative authorities of the UK and provides a range of data to offer a picture of broadband provision in each area. The map, available at was compiled using data provided by communications providers and covers 200 administrative authorities. Specifically it covers: - availability of superfast broadband (the percentage of addresses which are within the coverage area of superfast broadband networks); - average broadband take-up (excluding superfast broadband connections); - average maximum speed for ADSL and cable services (excluding superfast broadband); and - the percentage of homes with broadband currently not receiving 2Mbit/s speeds. The report which accompanies the map can be found here: | ![]() blackberrydrop

05/7/2011 12:34 | I am talking about market sentiment. There is clearly doubt (whether misconceived or not)about how AVN's pricing and service will fare up against the competition and hence the depressed share price. But hopefully this will all be put to rest as the company issues its trading updates and results. However, I am long on this not because I have done detailed technical analysis and market reasearch about the company's product and its place in the market but because I believe that the directors are not mugs. They are putting their money where their mouth is so that encourages me. Time will tell. | phoenixbird
05/7/2011 11:42 | > pojscott - 5 Jul'11 - 10:18 - 6191 of 6205 > Mr Cawkwell may even start buying but would he tell anyone? I thought he did publish his long positions as well as shorts. Why would he not? If his theory (be it right or wrong) is that his judgement affects sentiment towards a share, he would obviously want it to be known. I assume, therefore that he isn't long or short right now. | ![]() b1ggles
05/7/2011 11:10 | That is clearly a Cawkwell fed line. Lol rather sad | ![]() restassured
05/7/2011 11:09 | Same here Sg.......and the directors have shown how confident they are also. | ![]() yorgi |
