If Numis benefitted from their spurious note to clients they should be fined,what did they base their doubts on and who supplied the disinformation which surely added to the uncertainty that helped the shorters

Avanti welcomes Hunt's honesty regarding broadband funds



UK satellite broadband provider, Avanti, has reacted to the recent comments made by Jeremy Hunt regarding the UK's broadband budget.

The Culture Secretary stated that the government's Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) office only had half the budget needed to supply rural areas with high speed broadband.

The government aims to help 90 per cent of people in these areas gain access to super speedy broadband.

Avanti welcomed Hunt's honesty and said:

"In order to avoid social exclusion at the margins of society, Avanti is pleased to work with local and national government to ensure that the neediest members of our rural economies get service as soon as possible."

The government and Avanti are working together to create new satellites that can provide up to 10Mbps broadband for anyone in the UK, regardless of their location.

The BDUK framework will allocate funding to ensure the most remote parts of the country will be served first.

Importantly, the government said it preferred match funding, which means that private companies such as BT could invest half of what the government put in.

Hunt hopes to announce the funding allocations for the UK regions before the summer recess.

I think Tom was very forthright about his views on this and I believe he has added browny points for the comments he made. Can't understand though why he allows himself to still be associated with SC, even if he is suppose to be at arms length.

For the record,TW is not happy to publish all SC's thoughts as he censored some of Cawkwell's remarks last week.TW stated in his weekend editorial that he takes a very dim view of SC's actions with regard to AVN.

The FSA will be combing through all the records and I am expecting individuals to face criminal charges and huge fines in the near future.

I don't believe in coincidences.


Being a high profile individual is a double edged sword and I smell blood.

This has been one of the most blatant episodes of share price manipulation I have come across to date.


Any investor that lost money as a result, has full recourse to compensation from said individuals.

Mr Cawkwell needs to be held to account.

The Numis apology appeared about 2 weeks ago, that was the first time there had been any reference to Numis' suggestons on here I think?

The story is only about the TigrisNet contract, which was a story that appeared after the shorting campaign started and involved relatively small sums, so I don't think it is fundamental although, of course, one doesn't know if it was a Numis analyst that was feeding through all the other stuff as well. Everyone got very hot and bothered about it but stories/rumours alone won't sustain a shorting campaign; the real problem was always going to be a hot share price based on theoretical revenues some time in the future. It's very difficult to short profitable companies with growing revenue and profit streams and quite easy to attack those whose promised revenue and profit streams have yet to appear.

I've held these since before the launch, so not exactly happy with the performance but the reason why I bought them hasn't changed and I look forward to winning the 'war' even if I've lost the recent 'battle'.

Datagroup, the Ukrainian telecommunications operator, has signed an agreement
with Skylogic, the broadband affiliate of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext
Paris: ETL) to deliver broadband solutions to consumers and enterprises in the
Ukraine, including the Tooway(TM) broadband service delivered via Eutelsat's
innovative KA-SAT satellite.

The announcement was made on June 15 in Kiev during a presentation organised in
the presence of Peter Yatsuk, Chairman of the National Commission for
Communications Regulation (NCCR) at the Ukrainian State Centre of Radio
Frequencies and attended by its Director Pavlo Slobodianuk.

From September, Datagroup will launch consumer broadband using its "Internet
Boom" trademark. Users will be able to receive an always-on satellite service
delivering speeds of up to 10 Mbps downstream and 4 Mbps upstream. The customer
equipment comprises a small satellite dish (77 cm) and a sleek modem, which is
connected to a PC or Mac via an Ethernet connection.

Business customers will also be able to meet professional requirements for
higher bitrates and/or higher quality services for applications including
private networks, broadband access for businesses and institutions, back-up
services and remote monitoring (SCADA). For these services, an advanced system
also provided through KA-SAT, will increase speeds to 50 Mbps downstream and 20
Mbps upstream.

Satellite broadband via KA-SAT will also be deployed by Datagroup for the
"School Internet" programme initiated in September 2010 by the Kiev Regional
State Administration. As the majority of schools in the Kiev region are located
too far from terrestrial networks, their Internet connectivity will be provided
by satellite using the Tooway(TM) service to offer students and teachers the
benefits of high speed and high-quality Internet access.

Tooway(TM) service now allows us to offer end users an Internet solution
matching traditional terrestrial technologies, wherever they are located," said
