Absolutely right and the pull back is across the market for tech, fintech, bioscience. /nothing to do with Augmentum's specific holdings

@Trekker60- There's only one major factor affecting tech investments and that's rising yields. AUGM is an investor in Fintech companies that are valued based on high growth rates of discounted cash flows. The discount rate used to reach a net present value has risen and therefore the value of the AUGM portfolio has to go down.

Can anyone with a better insight than me suggest why the share price has fallen so sharply recently? Concern over AUG selling one its soundest investments (ii)? Concern over one or more of AUG's other investments? General concerns about the fintect secto? MMs trying to generate more share price trading volumes?

ii was probably the least risky asset of the Augmentum portfolio, a lot of the other holdings look promising but in fields I know little about. So often good ideas in fintech get outpaced by newer rivals or bigger players moving into the space. I’ve taken profits and shall be keeping a close eye on Augmentum to re invest. Can see the share price falling a bit from here. They’ve had a good run in a risky field

Yes, that's a nice exit though we won't see the proceeds until Q2 next year (per ABDN timetable).

Agree - 3.8% which was valued at £32.6m as documented here(22/06/2021: hxxps://augmentum.vc/news/investors-chronicle-simon-thompson-covers-augmentum-in-his-latest-piece/

3.8% of a £1.5bn II valuation is £57m, implying a book valuation increase of ~75%/~£25m.

For comparison, AUGM market cap is currently around £285m.

Is this rough calculation any good?

Nav ps as of 31 Mar 2021 = 130.4p
annual nav growth: 10% in 2019, 6% in 2020, 12.3% in 2021 = approx 9.4% annualised.

Minor uplift from sale of Dext in April 2021 increased this by 1.66p

Portfolio value at 31 Mar 2021 = £164.13m + cash £27.43m

Investments since 31 Mar 2021 total £27.5 million.

Hence July 2021: 40.59 million new shares issued at 135.5p (raising ~£55 million)

Assuming 5% uplift on investment portfolio since 31 Mar 2021 based on annualised nav growth (164.13m + 27.5m) x 1.05 = 201.21m + 54m cash = £255.21m NAV
(I trimmed the 55m a bit for expenses / fees)

= approx nav ps of 141p + Dext profit = 142.66p

edit: oops thats exactly same as current share price

I see the Chairman, Neil England, bought a further £36k of shares yesterday at 144p. He last bought via the placing in July when he subscribed for £102k at 135.5p.

Here's a short piece on AUGM, building the team and selecting investee companies, including this snippet:

To end, tell us about an investment that has surprised you the most – positive or negative and why?

When we invested in interactive investor in 2015, they were regarded by some as a tired business that wasn’t going anywhere. Today they have over £50 billion in assets under administration, half a million customers and are a major challenger to Hargreaves Lansdown and the like.

I always felt that wealth management was a space that had been overlooked and interactive investor was one of those companies with good potential but that required patience and belief. I’d say that was one where we certainly were very contrarian at the time and a lot of people scratched their heads. This investment looks set to be one of our outlier success stories that took years to materialise and reinforces my view that venture is not about overnight unicorns, despite the fact that I read all the time about these amazing businesses that go from zero to a billion in a year. This approach might take a little bit longer at times but if you are patient and focus on fundamentals it can certainly pay off.

The price has to do with tech stocks rout on Monday and Tuesday. Augmentum invests in fintech companies which have had 2 very rough days. There is a glimmer of blue today in tech stocks which should do well for Augmentum. A good buying opportunity.
