Guess it's nerves to see if the Zopa raise is successful and underpins at least the current valuation. If it doesn't get away the lack of appetite and loss of banking licence could see the valuation suffer and I think it's over 20% of their portfolio. So big impact.

Bit of a dip in share price over the last few days. Maybe a reaction to delay in publication of interim results? Anyone got any insight/view on this?

Tamir Zoltovski (co-founder of Moneta International) says, "When Fintech was invented in the 21st Century, the phrase was primarily applied to the technology used at the back-end systems of standard financial institutions. Since then, this system has shifted to more consumer-oriented services and providing services in different sectors such as education, retail banking, fundraising and nonprofit, and investment management, etc."

I signed for a news email from the company and the first one arrived today. It is very interesting reading and flags up a potentially very exciting future .
I invested here as a bit of a thematic play on fintech. The info on the website is extensive and really shows the potential of some of their investments . Well worth a look.

Agreed. Only been in this one for 3 months, and only in a fairly small way, but in terms of the fund's business development (if not it's share price!)so far, so good.
Fully expect there to be a few bumps in the road as the odd investment turns sour but hope that in the longer term any such failures will be outweighed by successes. We'll see!

EH9: Thanks for the insight. "Low volatility" suits me fine as I see this one as a longer term tuck-away.

It's a tiny fund with small marketing budget. Their biggest holding is not inspiring and they are missing out on the mega cap opps which have been rocketing. So it's not for everyone and not heavily traded but this means low volatility

Just bought a small holding in this through the recent offer. Anyone with more experience of this fund got any thoughts about the fact that the offer raised about £25 million when the stated target was £30m (and hopes of up to £50m if demand was strong enough)? Seems like demand was OK'ish but not overwhelming?

Currently GROW offers imho a higher quality, more diversified play. Albeit, not pure fintech. It’s also available at a small discount. However, I will continue to watch AUGM with interest.

This fund is not for institutions really. It's to give retail investors access to these companies. The iii holding is probably the highest potential. Whether this will do better than eg Scottish mortgage or Allianz technology over the next 12 months remains to be seen. Brexit is a huge damper on UK finitech too since access to markets and talent will be hit.

I would want a larger discount to the market price to make this worth investing in. It's underlying investments are speculative and I'm happy to pay a premium for a stable and safe fund, such as infrastructure funds, but not a premium for this. I doubt it will be over-subscribed as the large income funds like to take large positions in secure, inflation-linked income streams - e.g. recent popular equity issues have been BBGI, The Renewables Infrastructure, SEQI and Greencoat UK Wind.

A big part of subscribing for a share offer is predicting the demand from large investment funds - if they are keen to take a large position, as a private investor you will make an instant profit, but if you predict that they will be more cautious then you won't have the tailwind of the large institutional money pushing up the share price. My impression is that many institutions are currently quite cautious and will not be keen on Augmentum.

Very true i would think. The trickbis to back the winners. I’m backing AUGM to create a portfolio that has enough winners in it to more than deal with any losers.
They seem to have done thst well to date

Any opinions on this article by Moneyweek? The writer is suggesting that a lot of Fintech businesses will never make money:

Re. BullionVault:

From website:

Our Portfolio:

Investors relations section:

{edit}:

To search bullionvault site for mention of Augmentum:

...Augmentum invests in businesses that exploit inefficient markets and those that develop disruptive technologies. Augmentum has invested in 6 internet and software businesses since 2010, one of which was BullionVault in which it acquired an 11% stake in 2010...

BullionVault is the world's largest online investment gold service taking care of $2 billion for more than 70,000 users. It is part-owned by both GBIT and Augmentum Capital.

etc

(No position in these, but hope that helps)

Previous post deleted ..

just double checked ..

I'm sure I'd read that bullion Vault had a major partner called 'Augmentum'..
(although it was from memory & several years ago ... )

so thought this may be an interesting tie in ..

hence the original post

.. but apparently not ..

no mention any longer of Augmentum .. on the BV site..

One problem. As little as 5% deposit, is £7.5k,£10k,or £12k CASH.

No one who generally rents EVER has that sort of cash.
Especially young people.

The mortgage market and house ownership is out of the realms of the majority for the next generation of people for ever.

Until the current banking system is crushed and re-started, and for that to happen you need a good old fashioned World War.
