Just a delaying tactic imho, no big deal, with the usual over reaction from the market.

Well we have seen it before but it will be interesting if the end game here is a takeover, particularly if the market continues to undervalue...

Analysts at Singer Capital Markets said winning Government approval has the potential to be "transformational".

They said: "If any commercial contracts for the handling of LLW are signed, there would be potential for upgrades to forecasts. On our assumptions, each 1,000 tonnes of LLW could add close to £0.5m to forecasts.

"Although no commercial contracts have yet been signed, we believe a number of discussions are ongoing and a positive outcome looks likely at some point this year."

Singer analysts expect Augean to report adjusted profits of £1.3m in 2011 on sales of £36.9m.

Went to the AGM and seemed to be the sole private shareholder.
By AIM standards they have a good and strong board and are professional people.

Going through the annual report prior to the meeting, noteworthy that the amount of hazardous material they processed in 2008 was 323k and in 2010, 192K, which shows the extent of the downturn that has hit them. Development of brownfield sites is an important driver of this business and not sure if we are going to see a great pick up in the next couple of years. Incidentally queried why last year their processing of non hazardous waste had gone up so much given that landfill is a scarce resource; apparently in one of their sites in the North, they have in very close proximity a landfill site for hazardous waste and another for non hazardous and the fact that they can deal with both is an important competitive advantage.

Incidentally I note that apart from the Bristol treatment facility they have nothing south of Peterborough/ Worcester and it would be interesting to see how much of a disadvantage not having anything in the more dynamic South is given presumably the high costs of lorry transport.

In terms of the LLW, said they would be disappointed not to have their first orders this year. They have complied with all the detailed conditions for it to be operative apart from putting a fence around it. They work with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority-www,nda.gov.uk who sets up strategy for disposing of LLW; as I understood it the only other facility that does Nuclear LLW is in Cumbria and does not have the full range of services. Ie there is some landfill(did not get how much) that only AUG does. In addition to the NDA there are private sector potential clients-GE Health care was mentioned.

The question was asked by what the Board expectations-referred to in the AGM Statement-were and a reference to a note put out today by Singers-their broker-which as I gathered had new estimates.. Should have asked to have seen a copy. Any update has not made it to Digital Look yet who still have broker's estimate for pretax profit at £1.15m.

Sounds like an earnings upgrade on way?

"This is a significant milestone for Augean and we expect that the site will be able to start receiving low level waste from Q4 2011 and into 2012

McDowell said the group continued to make good progress with its wider growth strategy and the board remains optimistic about delivering the original expectations for the remainder of the year.

He added: "In the event that commercial contracts for LLW disposal are signed the board will then review the forecast for the year."

Shanks to expand UK waste operation

a surge in demolition and construction projects across the continent, many of which were stalled during the winter, meant the group ended the year to March 31 ahead of market expectations.

Tom Drury, chief executive, said Shanks would invest £150m ($246m) in expanding its UK business, which last year accounted for a quarter of the group's £21.2m of pre-tax profits, in a bid to cash in on the rising costs of disposing in land-fill sites. Changes in legislation mean the tax on land fill will rise from £56 per tonne to £86 in 2014.

"We see the UK as our strongest growth market, as half of all its waste is still going into land fill, but the costs of doing that are going to get prohibitive so people are going to be looking for alternatives," Mr Drury said.

Sales in the UK grew by 20 per cent during the year to £176m, buoyed by the municipal waste division, which is under contract to manage 1.5m tonnes of rubbish. The strong performance helped to offset the weaker levels of activity in the commercial and industrial sectors

Large buys at 33.125p going through!

Deal of the day: Augean jumped 19.8% to 331/4p, after the hazardous waste Manager was granted permission by the Government to dispose of low-level nuclear waste from decommissioned power stations at its East Northants facility outside Peterborough. The company expected disposal of crushed concreted, bricks and metal to start there later this year
