URI have had a strong few days. I expect a retrace at some point. if it coincides today it could be a miserable results day. Not the first time I have scratched my head wondering what the hell investors want to spike the price.

It doesn't like 1700. Drops it like a hot cake and runs away.

Looking at the 3 month chart above you will see it reached the same level as Friday and immediately retreated to a more than safe distance. Looking to the left of the chart shows the resistance was the same in March and April.

So far....it has managed to make a higher high but only just. (I am comparing with the last closing high in May at approx 1628). Look at the pattern of the May high and compare it with the recent price action.

Maybe when the US opens it may push the share price back to 1700 but it appears that results alone are insufficient to break through 1700.

It's just about holding above the Daily SMA 100.

To-days volume will be interesting. I expect it to be approx 2.5 million.

Well I was looking forward to market reaction to results last night, whichever way this goes from here it still shows that despite quarterly reporting the market still gets more interested when the final results are out.

This will be followed by a write up in the likes of Chronic Inv who were saying since about £6 that AHT were overvalued , then when we hit about £16 changed their tune and conveniently omitted to refer to their previous sell recommendations.

Also the brokers will be issuing new recommendations I presume - lets hope the good news in terms of market share and bolt ons are pushed.

From a presentation I remember Jeff saying he had to pander to both US and UK investors.UK want divi and the us want buy backs. Hence a little of both with no one satisfied .

As always a great result well done and thanks.
cheers

I guess paying out one-third of profit in dividends wouldn't be over generous so they could have paid a bit more.
Still optimistic there is plenty of growth ahead.

Dividend only around 25% of EPS

Theoretically sustainable - so why not a few pence more?

"Our same-store growth of 7% is about double that of the rental market as we continue to take market share"

thats a good one

Market growing , slice of market widening with acquisitions , share of market growing with gains from competitors........

James
I wanted a few pence more on the final div.

Looking at the list of acquisitions they have already spent close to $150m in the current year to follow on from the buying spree of last year.

If these bed in and deliver then of course its more growth to come.

But if you look at the yield even with the jump in dividends that's pretty low.

Call me old fashioned but I'm starting to get a nagging feeling that we may have reached a zenith. Most companies would be flying with these results but AHT my well now be a victim of its own remarkable success over the past 15 years. Market now expect amazing instead of inline results.
Is the romance over?

Fourth quarter profit only up 2% year on year a bit less than we are use to but as mentioned level of acquisitions has had an impact. Sets if up for higher growth next year.
23% increase in final dividend seems pretty impressive, how much did you want?

Market seems non plussed but rose well into results. Will be interesting to see if URI can keep its head of steam going this afternoon which should drag AHT with it.

Here's mine

Results fine - ROI a little lower but explanation is £400+ on bolt on acquisitions that have yet to impact

Wanted a higher final dividend

Are Deutsch bank still short?

It always seems to me that although we know quarterly how AHT is doing the wider market tends to have a wait and see approach leaving it until the full year results are published.

Lets see just what the reaction is tomorrow then.

From last Friday (interactive investor):Equipment rental firm Ashtead (AHT) has been a star performer in recent years. It did well after sterling crashed after the EU referendum – it does the lion's share of its business in the US.And it was that exposure through its core Sunbelt division which provided a further lift when Donald Trump took the US presidency in November, with the promise of £1 trillion of infrastructure spend. Now, it's expected to report a strong finish to the year ended 30 April, with Peel Hunt pencilling in fourth-quarter rental growth of 11% at Sunbelt, and 21% surge in earnings per share, driven in part by the strong dollar."Ashtead remains a key buy idea given the cyclical, structural and operational attractions," argues analyst Andrew Nussey, who rates Ashtead a 'buy' with £18 price target.====================================================HSBC upgrade today, buy, tp 1740Ramps over!DD
