06/8/2020 17:20 | @Roger207 ARB said: During the month of May, Argo mined 252 Bitcoin or Bitcoin Equivalent (BTC) compared to 319 Bitcoin Equivalent in April. This takes the total amount of BTC mined in the first five months of this year to 1,489 BTC. The reduction in the number of coins mined month to month was largely a result of the halving. During the month of June, Argo mined 180 Bitcoin or Bitcoin Equivalent (BTC) compared to 252 Bitcoin Equivalent in May. This takes the total amount of BTC mined in the first six months of this year to 1,669 BTC. Based on daily foreign exchange rates and cryptocurrency prices during the month, mining revenue in May amounted to £1.41 million (May 2020: £1.93 million). Argo generated this income at an average monthly mining margin of approximately 27% for the month of June (May 2020: 34%). During the month of July, Argo mined 165 Bitcoin or Bitcoin Equivalent (BTC) compared to 180 Bitcoin Equivalent in June. This takes the total amount of BTC mined year-to-date to 1,834 BTC. The reduction in the number of coins mined in July compared with the number mined in June was a result of a rise in mining difficulty mid-month. Argo continues to mine at the most cost-efficient mining settings and is pleased with the overall mining performance given market conditions. The halving happened in May. So the reduction of number of BTC mined in July is not related to the halving. From ARB announcement "result of a rise in mining difficulty mid-month. Argo continues to mine at the most cost-efficient mining settings", the probable reason for the reduction is that ARB reduced the voltage and the frequency of the miners so that the miners mine more efficiently, for example, it mined 9% less coins, but with 20% less electricity cost. That could be the reason why margin has improved. ARB might not be confident in the price of BTC, so it sold more BTC in July than in June. The number of BTC being hold reduced from 118 to 65. The bull market of BTC might come soon. So it is wiser to hold more BTC and run the miner less efficiently to get more coins, for example, at BTC price of $12000, it can run the miners more aggressively and having 20% margin, still earning more. However, that might reduce the life expectancy of the miners. | eastwind

06/8/2020 17:08 | Yes roger... their mining capacity has dropped off more than the increase in the value of coin.Margins are also smaller than btc's volatility ratio and the beta is multiples.Becareful they ramp when btc is flying but in reality this is not a viable business with btc below 10kAsk yourself how often and how long btc has traded below 10kbtc might fly and so might arb but that's one hell of a punt | plat hunter
06/8/2020 17:07 | You make a very good point about the viability of mining at certain BTC values. It would actually be more profitable for ARB if BTC were to stay in the 12k to 12.5k range as less miners means lower difficulty equals more blocks mined by ARB.Should BTC pass 13k every man and his dog will be buying up cheap PTH which will increase difficulty to a point no increased profits are possible, regardless of the price.Holding more BTC on the balance sheet with a view to 50k BTC would be the right strategy IMHO. | hootza616

06/8/2020 16:59 | R207, if you wish to join in these conversations do a little bit of research first. We don't need another plat tw@t on here. Output became a maximum of 50% of any output before halving in May. Unless machinery doubled and costs doubled. So, for those less informed, if ARB mined 350 coins in April their maximum after May becomes 175. Unless efficiency and hash rate increases. It's more complicated than that but it's a good place to start. However, it also shows ARB's performance to have held up extremely well. Many, many mining firms have left the field or suspended ops until $13k per btc. or thereabouts. A 34% margin is fantastic for a not quite yet 2 year old business. | 1new guy
