"An Oil Quandary: Costly Fuel Means Costly Calories "

A worker on a plantation in Sungai Buloh, Malaysia, collects oil palm fruit. Malaysia is the center of the global palm oil industry.

"The palm is a highly efficient producer of vegetable oil, squeezed from the tree's thick bunches of plum-size bright red fruit. An acre of oil palms yields as much oil as eight acres of soybeans, the main rival for oil palms; rapeseed, used to make canola oil, is a distant third. Among major crops, only sugar cane comes close to rivaling oil palms in calories of human food per acre.

Palm oil prices have jumped nearly 70 percent in the last year because supply has grown slowly while demand has soared."

I guess there can really be no definitive answer as to the best price to get back into AEP......so here's some numbers.......currently AEP is selling at 2 times its total assets (the plantations mainly) and 2.5 times price/book. Also Price/sales multiple; 5.1 and long term gearing is 23.8% with net debt; $17.37m and debt/equity; 24.8%, Operating profit; 39% and ROCE; 16%.

All this doesn't really relate to its shareprice clearly acting as a kind of proxy to the commodities market for palm oil. How many times the value of its total assets should AEP be selling at?....answers please!

Palmoil.com is live, but shows that day' price, in Malaysia, in Ringgits.
The 'R.E.A. holdings' website shows the previous day's Rotterdam closing price in USD.

The only way they can CURB is by SUBSIDY.

Otherwise the Chinese will not have any COOKING OIL.

Guys, just noticed the hidden palm play not yet noticed by the market is BBHL..one of Lord Ashcrofts' companies. They own 25% of a palm producer with 65K ha in Central America. I'm sure he can realise the value there like he has done in the past. DYOR !
