04/12/2020 12:25 | Nouriel Roubini - NYU Stern School of Business Professor (on Bloomberg TV today) Bitcoin is not a currency !!! Bitcoin is not a means of payment !!! Bitcoin is not a unit of account !!! Bitcoin is not a stable store of value !!! Bitcoin is not even an asset !!! an asset either has to have income, capital gain or some uses = stocks, bonds, real estate, Gold (jewellery & Industrial) as does silver ... Bitcoin doesn't have any income, doesn't have any use as a means of payment or as a unit of account,,,, but it will give you a capital gain or loss based upon no intrinsic value,,, has a price, but no dividend, no earnings, no income, no rent, nothing.... Bitcoin is a purely speculative asset like a Ponzi scheme where the value goes up provided there are other suckers prepared to buy whilst the wealthy holders are dumping it,,,, it has no intrinsic value!! Cashless Society will not be facilitated by cryptos - all crypto prices are subject to manipulation by criminal organizations,,, easy to spot this activity on the dark web and players think they are anonymous, but actually they are not and they are easy to find......... We will have a Central Bank Digital Currency that will dominate any private payment system including crypto currency,,, it will be safe, instantaneous, cheap and absolutely settled and cleared in a moment and these central bank digital currencies are NOT going to be based on blockchain because blockchain is supposed to be public, these will be private systems, blockchain is permission-less & trust-less, whereas the centralized systems will be based upon a few trusted organizations, central banks, commercial banks who will be authorizers!!! People get excited when they hear central banks talking about Central Bank Digital Currency,, but they will be nothing to do with Crypto or Blockchain,,,, its going to be a centralized, permission, private & based upon trust and authorities verifying transactions,,, not a bunch of shady miners operating in jurisdictions where there is no rule of law because 80% of all crypto mining is occurring in places like Russia, China, Belarus and other areas which are a national security issue for the USA, all strategic rivals to the USA.... In the current system only commercial banks have an account with the central banks, but with these digital currencies, once launched, means every household, business and so on will have an account with the central banks so we don't need to use PayPal or bank accounts etc,,,, it will all be safe, trusted, verified etc etc!!!! fascinating stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! basically to him BTC = TULIP :-) LOL oh what a game this is :-) We shall see :-) Cheers Wan :-) | wanobi
04/12/2020 12:01 | Hi Wan, JSE - a good solid update imo. Not much changed/to comment on since the H1 update really but it looks like there will be a lot of activity in 2021. 1) Increasing net cash position (now makes up just under 25% of market cap) and will be debt free v soon. 2) Still achieving significant premiums to Brent (particularly for the Stag oil) 3) Maari aquisition been delayed a bit but should complete next year and will end up costing JSE nothing essentially due to production/cash flows backdated from aquisition date (amazing really). 4) Workovers that were delayed in Q2/Q3 (due to low oil price?/Covid?) now kicked off in Q4. I assume this is why the net cash position has not risen much since H1 - though 190k barrels due to be lifted in Dec, which will achieve around $11m by my calcs. 5) Cost savings appear to be doing very well. In 2021: 6) Maari aquisition completes 7) Indonseia aquisition completes 8) Infill well drilling on both Stag and Montara to increase production into rising oil price (hopefully) 9) Looks like Nam Du development is back on - great news - this will be a big step change in cash flows and diversification into fixed price gas contracts - probably 24 months to first production though 10) 'Something' to happen with the increasing cash war chest - another aquisition(s) appear to be on the agenda - potentially 'transformational' apparently! The market is still not ascribing much value to JSE and it's steady cash producing assets, but lots of upcoming value drivers imo. | king suarez
04/12/2020 11:49 | lefrene, once it was only 2p when I traded this for a lot of years, but the spread has grown far too much for my liking. I just hope someone comes too their senses and gets the spread sorted out. As for the politics, sorry I try to avoid it apart from my own domain as there will always be political problems where ever you are in the world, it's a risk you need to look at before investing. | cinoib
04/12/2020 11:26 | Great post CC. Most investors rely on RNS information to make investment choices. This board, and the knowledge that is shared, almost makes us insiders thanks to the research posted on here. | jaspoland
04/12/2020 11:22 | thanx for the heads up "someone looking to buy big in the auction, 138,000 at 127" DP, much appreciated, cheers Wan :-) | wanobi
04/12/2020 11:19 | indeed fozzie :-) Cheers Wan :-) | wanobi
04/12/2020 11:16 | STCM inching up again I notice. That should be in your high yield sleeper Wan. | fozzie
04/12/2020 11:13 | I must sell to buy now. I have too many stocks in the portfolio and need to reduce the number heavily. It’s worked but it’s a lot of work keeping tabs on them all. | fozzie
04/12/2020 10:52 | someone looking to buy big in the auction, 138,000 at 127 Interesting to see how that plays out during the day | donald pond
04/12/2020 10:30 | Not wishing to cross-ramp but really suggest you all read Matt's post on the CPX thread. With manufacturing starting this month and orders up over 100% yoy (plus an extra 10% post AGM), it looks cheap based on its likely production. But the potential upside from the court case dwarfs the value of the company imo. Go read and make your own mind up. | donald pond
04/12/2020 10:20 | Well said cc | jbravo2
04/12/2020 10:16 | Fozzie Well I played it well on the drop getting out and into pharma and gold, I have missed this rally in the main market shares as I didn't believe, and still don't, that there is any reason for this euphoria. What has changed? In March the world was not in a good place economically now we are in December after a ruinous 9 months and we are getting a rally everyone is buying into. Something smells wrong, how long this bull rally can continue when Biden gets his hands on the printing presses I dont know but it has to end surely and gold comeback into fashion with a bang? To me the oil price just now seems crazy, we had oversupply in March circa 110 mbpd production for a demand of around 100 mbpd and an oil price war because of that. Now we have demand projected around 90 mbpd and OPEC+ cuts of around 7mbpd plus a lot of shale production frozen and many others e.g. tarsands cutting production as unprofitable yet oil price is rising! What will happen when it rises a bit more I wonder lol? Producers with held back production will raise production and OPEC+, who are already showing massive cracks, will open the taps again. I see the whole stock market as the same, everyone thinks we are returning to the sunny uplands that never even existed! Emperor's new clothes I feel BWTFDIK? Edit 11_percent succinctly put. | pogue
04/12/2020 10:15 | I would imagine the news flow at the moment has a lot of interdependencies, not least awaiting steps/notification by the Government of Azerbaijan. There is a high probability that the news, when it comes, will be significantly value enhancing for AAZ. We know they are discussing an extension/expansion to the Gedabek/Gosha CAs. We know they have "acquired" at least one additional CA from the liberated territories, probably two and possibly all three. We know there is a plan to have a transport corridor with the territory in which Ordubad is located which opens up the prospect of that CA being moved into production. We have been consistently reassured that a JV with Conroy Gold will shortly be finalised. The price of gold remains high and the fiat printing machines are likely to keep it that way. And for good measure, the price of copper has also been on the rise. As much as we would all like that news to be available sooner than later, I am happy to wait for the company to update us when it is appropriate to do so. It does test the patience though when most of us think the share price should already be 50-100% higher. Enjoy your weekend folks! | crazycoops

04/12/2020 10:08 | As long as the FED has our back, we are ok. Having said that, this rise will end, they all do, just need to keep looking the catalyst that will do it. | 11_percent
04/12/2020 10:05 | There's a string of 5000's in the sell column, spread bets? But then why would you short a miner that's just unexpectedly come into new mines? Or is this a device to shake out losose stock. | lefrene
04/12/2020 09:59 | Have to admit I haven’t a scooby where this market is going over the next 12 months. I was down 60% in April and am now up 20%+, it’s been a hell of a ride and I am immensely grateful to have come through it. At 57 years of age and contemplating retirement to be 60% down in April was worrying to say the very least. More luck than judgement that I have survived. | fozzie
04/12/2020 09:47 | A mostly sobering article on where we maybe going, mainly bearish but bulls are accommodated if only because their views seem so crazy. Highlights the point that everyone is so positive just now it like we are in a full euphoria bull market which can only end with a bang. Worth doing a quick survey to read the article if you are not a subscriber if it gives you the option. www.ft.com/content/d | pogue

04/12/2020 09:29 | Yup, because last time I looked under the occupied territories tab there was simply a line saying we have no operations currently in the OT | mad foetus
04/12/2020 09:22 | mf/dp AAZ made a decent fist of getting across what their existing/extending/p Possibly these could form the gist of a revamped summary section for their website? Rather than be buried in a literature sub menu. | 2sporrans
04/12/2020 09:15 | Clx flying today. Polx - worth keeping a close eye. Breaking out. Update on fda fast track for their lung imaging product next week. Stifel appointment today as jt corp broker, could suggest Nasdaq listing is an option or there to raise capital to fast track any business development. Massively disruptive tech. | mr roper |
