Great figures as we knew they would be and stuffed with over £13m of cash. First quarter has gone well with turnover up over 5%. The one thing that baffles me is market expectation is for an additional £9.5m revenue but with a drop in pre IFRS-16 EBITDA of £0.9m when they have been expanding their margin as a result of a shift towards own brand goods. Just doesn’t add up.

Growing Market ??
The number of people fishing in the UK is certainly not growing, it has been declining for years, Covid was a huge bonus for the FT trade but it is now unwinding .

Why when the company have said this:

The Company understands that the work to be completed is only in relation to the disclosure of comparative figures for the year ended 31 January 2021 ("FY21"), in particular in relation to the presentation of balance sheet lease assets and liabilities at 31 January 2021 under IFRS16. This matter is not expected to have any impact on FY21 sales or pre-IFRS 16 EBITDA or cash at 31 January 2021.

The Board confirms that there will now be a short delay in the publication of its results, originally due to be announced at 0700hrs on 11 May 2022. The Company will make a further announcement when a new date has been confirmed.

The Board expects that the results for FY22 will be consistent with the Company's trading statement issued on 22 February 2022 and market expectations for the year.

It sounds like the auditors just aren't up to speed on how to present certain figures, not change the figures themselves. Still very cash rich and trading well with the benefits of the European hub to start this year. Also selling into a growing market.

https://www.fool.co.uk/2022/04/05/isa-deadline-2-penny-stocks-id-buy-right-now/Back of the netThe cost of living crisis is a danger to all retail stocks as consumer spending power falls. Fishing equipment specialist Angling Direct (LSE: ANG) is no exception. Though I'd argue that niche retailers like this are better placed to ride out the storm.Angling is one of those passions for which spending tends to remain resilient during upturns and downturns. In fact I'm considering buying this penny stock given the pace at which the hobby is growing. The number of anglers in the UK ballooned during Covid-19 lockdowns. Recent data from Statista suggests that there's plenty more upside to come, too. It believes the European fishing equipment market will grow at an annualised rate of 6% to 2026 and be worth $2.9bn by then.Angling Direct's sales rose an extra 7.2% in the financial year to January 2022, continuing its recent strong momentum. And last month the business opened a distribution hub in The Netherlands to sell products across the European Union.

https://www.fool.co.uk/2022/03/31/2-penny-stocks-to-buy-in-april/Angling DirectSome people spend their spare time casting around in the stock market for promising shares to buy. Others prefer to rest on the riverbank casting for fish. The two come together in the form of Angling Direct (LSE: ANG).The company is a retailer of angling supplies. As its name suggests, it has a sizeable digital commerce operation. But the company has also been building a network of retail branches. I think that two-pronged approach makes sense. The retail network can help build awareness of the company as well as serving anglers who prefer to buy in person. Meanwhile, the digital operation helps the company build national scale.Even in a world with online retail beasts, I think there is a place for specialist retailers. Their focus and customer service can help them build a reputation with a particular target customer group. Anglers are often happy to spend on their hobby and I expect the popularity of fishing to endure. There are risks – for example, a cyber attack not only hurt the company's reputation but also lost it some sales. That might happen again. But I am tempted to take a bite on the shares.

Grossly undervalued as it is and so expansion in Europe is the cherry on top of a very large cake imo.

A few nibbles but no big bites yet. Was lucky to pick a few yesterday at 49.

I get the impression that Europe is going to be the big break for ANG or it'll become a market 'meh'

Nice to have confirmation that the European distribution centre is up and running smoothly. Was always a precursor to expansion in continental Europe. Few buys coming in, in a tight market, to recover some of the illogical fall of late.

Is the market worried about yet another UK company making a foray into Euro markets?

Nice that Gresham House have increased their stake by over 3% to over 20% as they see a lot of similarities here with Games Workshop in that it is a hobbyist company and they tend to be long term customers, who are happy to spend. Looking forward to the year end update to focus the market on exactly how cheap this company is and how well it’s doing.

Price already starting to move up this morning and so it would suggest that yesterdays large trades were clearing an overhang. Hopefully this can move back up to the 80-90p range in the run up to the full year trading update in 3-4 weeks time. Price just got too silly of late.

Yes hopefully this isn't just moving a holding within a fund management group and it is actually a transfer from one firm to another. Offer price moved up to 55p straight after which is a positive sign. Guess we will just have to wait for the holdings rns and price action over the next few days.

Company has done £4.4m EBITDA at half way stage but are only confident enough to say that it will be no less than £5m for the full year. That would be quite a collapse in profitability from previous periods. Appreciate that it has been flagged that the 3rd qtr will be down on a distorted comparative last year. Is the market latching on to this and the reason for the continued fall in the share price? Is the CEO always overly cautious in his projections?

Also I am confused on some of the P/E ratios that are banded around for this one as they look way too high even if cash is not adjusted for. Can't really see how the P/E can be anything more than 8 and just over 4 if adjusting for cash.

Any thoughts assistance would be appreciated.

From WealthOracleAM....

Angling direct is a leading mail order fishing tackle company. Based in the UK, they have a team with more than 30 years of experience in the fishing trade. The company operates through several divisions – Mail order, Online purchasing, Insurance replacement, Superstores and 3 international websites (French, Dutch and German). The Group benefits from a fully automatic order processing and dispatch system, ensuring orders are dispatched immediately. The Group’s competitive advantage is its aim to create a community and not just generate sales, as their venues usually provide not only products but also advice and lessons on how to catch more fish.
Angling adopts a more blended approach towards growth, with several acquisitions done over the past decade. Goodwill currently stands at 10% of total assets, with no impairments done for the FY2021 (ending in January). Although the stock has been moving sideways for the past 3 years, same cannot be said for revenue. Revenue CAGR is at 32% and EPS growth is 30.9%. We must note that in 2019 and 2020 the operational gearing of the company made net losses for the periods, but they seem to have recovered during the last 18 months. ROCE is also positive for 2021 at 7.09% and gearing net of IFRS 16 leases is negative. P/E ratio at the end of the FY was on the higher end of the industry at 46.2 but on a TTM basis the company has one of the best P/BV and P/S ration in the industry.
