I can't say I'm surprised by this news, perhaps more surprised by expectations of an early spud. Given the time taken to source and mobilise a rig to Ntorya, we've seen that before, there was never much likelihood of a spud before next spring/summer. Which is after the end of the existing 1 year extension, so has to be renegotiated (again). And as has been said there have always been arguments for a proper 3D survey, as well as licence requirements. It's not really a surprise that a new operator, with cash resources, chooses to do a proper 3D series to evaluate the whole area spudding.Certainly looking a good investment from here, but it won't be overnight. (Hardly new for either AEX or Tanz)

ARA didn't farm in just to make a quick buck, they must have seen significant potential. At least the money is available to do a proper job, besides which the 3d is not a long job and I am sure there is a lot of capacity to do it at the moment. Been such a long wait already a few more months is nothing,

For sure an earlier spud would have been more exciting but the 3D results will make the chance of a positive outcome significantly higher... Let's sit back and look at other investments in the meantime...TITM

I suppose much better for long term but agree with Range for once.
Punters will move out of this quite quickly.
Still a decent investment from here though.

I said when Ntorya-1 was drilled that we NEED 3D Seismic over the area. I'm glad they saw sense and farmed out to ARA so that finally we get that 3D, which will make the placing of wells far more accurate, and may also tell us where the oil actually is.

Swan I've got friends who have worked in Tanzania and they had absolutely no issues in comparison to other sub saharan countries.

Politics is tribal and nepotism is rife (even with US presidents, both sitting and in waiting.) But do you disagree with this fellow? I have no direct experience of Tanzania, do you? I find him knowledgeable and have checked his facts and figures (which utterly contradict the Economist article) so I welcome the contrarian view. My take away is how 'off' our received opinions can be on these relatively remote jurisdictions. The Economist prints lies?! Who'd a thought it.

Yes on a serious note, there is definitely a view that he is a tough man on corruption but equally he does seem to have his preferred cronies as well?
Also I would not feel as safe "saying" such things openly in Tanzania!
