14/7/2008 14:36 | Gregory - I held BNC shares when Abbey was taken over by Santander. Thet are in sterling just as any other UK share. The EPIC code is BNC. | loganair
14/7/2008 14:34 | "malcolme2 - 14 Jul'08 - 14:27 - 3193 of 3196 jennyj, that is the right strategy if you think that the rest of the banks are undervalued. You have had a gift of 50% upside this morning whereas RBS or lloy or hsbc have not moved 50% so buy them with you AL money." Yep this sticks of corruption, if santander stock was 300% undervalued then it would not be fraud as it would be par value. This really does stink of fraud and im cutting my losses as I know the FSA/government wont do anything about it its simply "big business" a directorship here a brown envolope there. | jennyj
14/7/2008 14:30 | If I wait & take up the offer & end up with santander shares, how easy will it be to sell them? my A&L shares are in crest - will I have to open a euro tradeing account to get the santander shares sold? | gregory0106

14/7/2008 14:25 | Santander IS one of the largest banking groups in the world - do some research strange how every share jennyj ramps - goes down............ | zipper
14/7/2008 14:23 | "Santander is not a tinpot spanish bank it is a global bank, in fact, one of the largest banking groups in the world!" A pile of poo, not worth owning I have sold out and put the money into HBOS. Took a short position on Santander, with a yield of a mere 2% , 50% drops in spanish housing and over twice the PE of its fellow banks. This dog has fleas and needs to be put down. | jennyj
14/7/2008 14:18 | anyone could/can see the banking sector has big problems consolidation is/was on the cards! | zipper

14/7/2008 14:09 | just get the feeling the deal was probably done late sunday evening...didn't see any news on AL over the w/end papers...generally news of such nature are always leaked by those in the know...with the news of Freddie and Fannie in US and a smaller bank collapsed friday night in US maybe AL was in need of cash injection...and with the share price heading lower a rights issue would have been a disaster with what is going on HBOS and BB...maybe the big hand of the FSA might be in play here with the Spanish bank...all a big cover up... | diku
14/7/2008 14:04 | Investment banks look to Spain for distressed assets LONDON: Lehman Brothers and other investment banks, private equity firms and hedge funds are lining up to buy distressed Spanish assets as the steep economic slowdown offers investors big discounts. "We expect more nonperforming loan sales to follow," "We think Spain is going to be a very interesting market for opportunistic players," "This is the start of a very difficult situation. It will hit the bottom. We're looking for discounted assets." The Spanish economy is faltering after a decade-long boom that saw house prices almost triple. Spaniards who borrowed against the rising value of their homes to buy cars and second homes are struggling to pay their bills. | tricky1992000
14/7/2008 13:58 | for those who like high risk/reward shares - ITV is worth a look! | zipper
14/7/2008 13:53 | jennyj , how can it be so... so what, spanish property has fallen 50%.. Maybe SAN managed it finances much better and had a much better cash position. Indeed that's true unlike the UK banks. Just accept the buy now pay never culture which is what the UK grew on over the next 12 years was a recipe for disaster. That's why AL have gone for this price, because uk property prices have a further 40% to fall. AL if in the open market would go down 50p in 12 months time. The idea you think you can get a better price in todays market is just plain silly. jennyj - 14 Jul'08 - 13:33 - 3169 of 3179 Im about 50% down at the current price knowing that A+L is around 300% undervalued. Santander is a mere 33% off its yearly highs trading at a ultra high 8.7 PxE. Given that spanish property has dropped 50%, and UK property has not. This indicates a major fraud to me. | powwow
14/7/2008 13:53 | I would sell your entire holding today! unless youre a pure speculator. having spent this morning analysing SAN, they are not in such good shape themselves! im out as soon as its 330+ today | gurv
14/7/2008 13:51 | dope007 I agree, santander are just one of those stale non compitative banks. | tricky1992000
14/7/2008 13:48 | Santander are big in South america though but compared to others they are very expensive. Personally if I held AL. I would sell now and take the cash | dope007
14/7/2008 13:47 | i predict santander will have to do a rights issue in 2009 | tricky1992000
14/7/2008 13:44 | jenny you know what they say about cash dividends?? they don't lie well banco santander have a yield of 2%, it offers paper only for al, and it has took huge hits on property in spain, and unemployment is now at 2.39 million. it does not sound right to me. spains economy | tricky1992000
14/7/2008 13:44 | Am I watching an episode of Yes Minister!!! What are A&L not telling the share holders. I don't know what question to ask because I don't know. | loganair |
