14/7/2008 06:02 | You think that's unprecedented? | indieman
13/7/2008 09:02 | Acamas, The Dow historically does well in a presidential election year and less well in the following year(s) as reality sets in. | indieman
11/7/2008 17:22 | sold out at 250p anyway..i'm happy | morgan reynolds
11/7/2008 15:30 | bid coming in at £9.50 minimum. | jennyj
11/7/2008 14:27 | well there you go, even with level 2 impossible to predict direction. situation now reversed with four times the volume to sell as to buy. | peak_buyer
11/7/2008 10:18 | now 400k versus 60k perhaps it is returning to where it was before it looked like b&b was going pear-shaped. at that time (only a few days ago !) we were starting to rise from 320. | peak_buyer
11/7/2008 09:30 | Bid? £ 5? Why? It's only £ 2.50 why should they pay £ 5? More writedowns and divi cut to come yet. | mirshahik
11/7/2008 09:07 | order book strong, 208k buys, 130k sells and that's without any large buy orders lurking at a low price like yesterday. looks like the rise will be maintained today. | peak_buyer
11/7/2008 08:49 | 'Gillespie, 57, who will step down as chairman of Ulster Bank, a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland Plc., before taking up his new position, has extensive experience in both retail and investment banking. He spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs in London in its corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions division. His experience as a dealmaker is likely to fuel speculation that A&L could be taken over, the article added. It held abortive talks with Santander of Spain last year.' Just to re-iterate Wednesdays news! | zipper
11/7/2008 08:40 | to move the markets forward we need consolidation in several sectors this will bring much needed confidence back its not going to happen overnight AL. could be the little gem to start it moving Santander took Abbey out - not at the height of the market - but on a downturn expect a premium, but don't expect a highly inflated price unless it sparks other interested parties! aimho | zipper
11/7/2008 08:26 | Peak_buyer, I am wondering if this correction is the final goodbye to George W Bush. Our FTSE100 is controlled these days by global institutions and I am thinking this time next year Wall Street might wear a much brighter smile on its face. There will be a fresh face in The White House and the American Economy has not performed for the last two years so we must be reaching a turning point in their fortunes. The Dow must hit 15000 in the first half of The New Presidents reign say Xmas 2010. Once The Dow builds up steam who knows how quickly it will hit 20000. I ramp or speculate but The Dow will pass 20000 at some stage as sure as it passed 5000 and 10000 when it sat well below those targets. Just my ramblings regards Acamas | acamas
11/7/2008 07:59 | acamas, 12 quid will be reached eventually because markets always rise over time but that's decades, not a couple of years. its not going to snap back up there just because that's where it was - this is a correction, not a blip. but i do agree a substantial recovery will take place. | peak_buyer
11/7/2008 07:43 | bid soon... 500p ish | morgan reynolds
11/7/2008 07:37 | more than most methinks! | zipper
11/7/2008 07:32 | zipper, By doing so imo they make AL. a real value for money buy at these levels. The downside must be limited whereas at some stage we should see £12 or thereabouts when this Market turns bullish again in a year or twos time. bwdik | acamas
11/7/2008 07:15 | comparing Freddie and Fannie with AL.- chalk and cheese spring to mind! dyor | zipper
10/7/2008 23:57 | or "As far as Fannie and Freddie are concerned, they're a train wreck waiting to happen," he said. "If you mark (Freddie's) assets to market they're already bankrupt. That's what's pulling the market today-the realization that these institutions are in really bad shape." | moregas
10/7/2008 09:04 | if a RI is announced - the price will fall if not this will the best recovery stock in the banking sector a nice little gem just ripe for a forward looking suitor! imho | zipper
