13/7/2015 16:19 | wipo I have not followed either stock, other than a cursory glance at Mgam a few months ago. Alent had a history with the bidder, they were in court not so long ago. On that basis they were well known to each other, and perhaps it was easy to see a fit. Whenever there is a bid the dynamics of the mrket place change and companies in the sector will be looking for the impact on their business. It can occasionally set off a chain reaction that is defensive in mature. When the deal is done there might be a switch into such stocks. If you want a presence in the sector, and don't want a US stock, then they are the type of company that you would switch into with the proceeds. That may be some way off, except for those who have sold out today because they are happy to take profits at current levels. I would suspect that volumes will be up for a few days as speculators run the rule over the options available. It is possible that prices might soften once the dust settles. Alternatively the premium on the Alent Sp might lead to a re-rating of the sector. Sorry to be so vague, but that is about all that I can contribute at present. red | redartbmud

13/7/2015 10:19 | Just sold out at 489p. For the the sake of less than 3% I'm happy to move on. Got lucky with these - only bought in 2 weeks ago! Doesn't happen very often. | jgoold

13/7/2015 10:14 | Cevian has given an irrevocable undertaking to sell 21% To Platform so can't see how another bid could be successful. | jgoold
13/7/2015 09:45 | Lou No problem. Happy to help. Didn't buy more @ £4.85 as I dithered. Doh! red | redartbmud
13/7/2015 09:22 | Thanks Red. Always nice to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about! Lou | uklou2000
13/7/2015 09:15 | Lou Cost of capital. There is a time lag between the offer and completion. If you buy now you pay .5% stamp, plus dealing costs, then have to wait for your money. If you buy a few k's of shares @£4.85 you will get annualised around 3%. Guaranteed, but the measure is whether you can do better elsewhere. The question is the timescale where the cash is locked in. Happy to wait for £5.03 as it is an excellent premium over my cost. red | redartbmud
13/7/2015 09:06 | I've been trading Alent for the last few years and added significantly last week after the drop ..... I was looking to a return to 3.80's . Nice surprise this morning! Why 4.85 share price when the bid is for over 5 ? Lou | uklou2000
13/7/2015 08:49 | Interesting that the Sp has settled around £4.85. That suggests no counter bid. red | redartbmud
13/7/2015 08:37 | what's great about this business is the cash flow and margins. although there's over £100m net debt there's plenty of cash on the balance sheet and the cash it generates is at least equivalent to the operating profit. i'll be very surprised if it doesn't attract further interest now. woody | woodcutter
13/7/2015 08:30 | Woody You never know. I suppose that it was always vulnerable after the demerger. It has been operating long enough as a stand alone to asess the quality of the business and the benefits that will derive for merging it within existing operation. Undoubtedly others will look at the situation. Hold tight for the ride. red | redartbmud
13/7/2015 08:18 | it might not be the end game, i wouldn't be surprised to see another bidder to be honest. woody | woodcutter
13/7/2015 08:03 | Woody Thanks. I looked on Investegate under Alent. Nothing reported there this am. Good job that I added to my holding the other day, when I thought that they were undervalued. red | redartbmud

13/7/2015 07:45 | Woody What do you mean by recommended offer? red | redartbmud
13/7/2015 07:31 | recommended offer at 503p. for a while i've felt ALNT was significantly undervalued in the main due to it's strong presence in it's market sectors. I've been adding at the recent lows and at previous trend support lows, nice to see a plan come to fruition. free stock charts from uk.advfn.com woody | woodcutter
10/7/2015 21:05 | Cheers for that HM2. | weird_dave
10/7/2015 11:23 | wd - I think it may be China. If the Party cannot control things and there is slip over to the real economy from the Tech Market meltdown, then significant effect on motor and tech product demand. ie Alent customers end markets. Same thing that is hitting BMW & Merc shareprice maybe ( both very exposed to China). All IMO of course - any other thoughts ? | housemartin2 |
