not too impressed with the price obtained for the leisure division. Will be interesting to see the detail.

They still need to make a profit in the current climate. They are struggling to compete with the major brands on price and quality.
You can buy a Samsung/Philips/LG in fact most quality brand TVs for the same price as a Bush/Alba offering. Also the quality brands are now manufacturing in the same places even the same factories.
I still cannot see how they can compete their core business was selling at a discount to the majors they have now lost their price advantage and unless they can manufacture cheaper I do not see how they can regain this.
Really hard to put a price on Alba especially with the debt they are carrying. It takes a brave punter to buy the shares.

It maybe that with the possible talk of a sale of part of the business if I remember right this month that the share price may just stablise now, if punters think it has gone low enough! Looks that way in the last couple of days.
But one still has the question of prospects.

Apparently a loss of £43m this year but that is made up of £16m for Grundig and £25m non recuring loss, and they are predicting a profit for 2007/08 in line with expections. Share price may pick up when they sell their subsidary hopefully they said this month. A wonderful short looking back at £5.00. Could it full further though.

is that simply based on last year's, or on real expectations for this year?

Are there any predictions on what their divi payment will be this year?

Looks very similar to Amstrad as a company with moribund ideas and product that is in severe need of a shake up.

At 161p we are now at a 5 year low. How much further is this going to fall?

I also followed this stock for a while but left it alone fortunately as I felt management have lost the plot.
Fact is they really cannot compete now or in the future.
They are trying to sell the leisure division they have lost 43 million pounds this year they have cut the staff down to 283.
All sounds a bit desperate how they are going to get back into profit with the major brands now selling their goods for similar money and obviously sourcing from the same places.
Good old Alan Sugar saw the writing on the wall years ago and diversified into other areas such as property. How can we even start to compare the management at Alba with Sir Alan.
I feel the only solution is to break the company up full stop and wind down the non profit making bits completely.
The trading statement is a bit vague, who is the mystery buyer. I would bet that no sale takes place in fact looks like they are making contingency plans for a no sale already.
This was once a great company with good management what went wrong.

Portia, I still keep looking at this stock although I'm not currently a holder. I still can't see a way through for Alba, as you said you can buy the leading brand products for a similar price, now the big names are manufacturing in china. I recently bought a Sanyo 28in freeview tv made in the UK(suffolk)for just a bit more than a Bush equivalent. The other worrying thing I have noticed is that the big retailers are selling low cost audio equipment under the Hitachi and other top brand names specially made for themselves under licence. All the big supermarkets have their own budget brands squeazing Alba out so I really can't see where Alba can go.....maybe private equity buyout, management buyout, maybe Beko or Alco Holdings or Tamashi would be interested at the right price.......just pure speculation on my part.
all the best Lee

All been a bit quite on this board lately I have been out of the market for a year now. I know timing is terrible. This stock has alaways been one of my favorite earners overs the last 10 years but now seems in the doldrums and I can see why. I bought a new Plasma 42" over the weekend £899 for a HD ready Phillips! How can Alba compete with this in fact do they have a 42" TV. Could have bought a 32" Phillips for the same price as a Bush. I know which one I would buy.
Also I understand they are selling of some bits of the business but keeping the TV/Radio side of things. Who is running the business. You need to evaluate you customer base every few years and evolve with it. Alba seem to be reluctant to move with the times.
Anyway just thought I would post something to see if anybody is still interested in this stock.

Yes trying to dump the stock. Problem is by the time they design new products to compete in the current market the big boys will have moved on leaving Alba once again trailing behind and how do you shift obsolete stock in a hurry

Yep 608554 £1.94 you got it.

Three cheers for Daniel Harris! he's just woken up and realised what we all knew months ago, Alba is full of obsolete analogue stock that needs dumping pdq.
Where's he been for the last 18 months? Zimbabwe!

I really do hope they are not going to be pinning their hopes on MP3 players and digital cameras. The average mobile phone now has a very good version of both as standard. I now use my Sony Ericson 700i for everything especially the superb digital camera. Apple have already stated that these new mobile phones are impacting ipod sales and that the cost of MP3 players are crashing.
Just as Alba decide to enter the market!
Also the internet is the way forward for sales just look at Dixons on line they are undercutting the competition and gaining market share.
As Mr Harris said no one in Alba really understands the internet so how they are going to implement a strategy to remove their reliance on companies like Argos (Possibly the worst shopping experience I have had)I do not know.
