and to top it all off...

Irn-Bru maker AG Barr has revealed it is struggling to make deliveries of its drinks due to the HGV and supply chain issues.

The company said it continues to “monitor closely” the situation and is hopeful the issues can be resolved soon.

Updating the stock market, bosses said: “In recent weeks we have seen increased challenges across the UK road haulage fleet, associated in part with the Covid-19 pandemic, impacting customer deliveries and inbound materials.

“In addition, the risks associated with the wider labour pool and the current Covid-19 pandemic response are areas we continue to monitor closely.”

The soft drinks maker reinstates its dividend after a first-half earnings surge, but flags growth will slow for the rest of the year.

... "We do not expect to maintain the current level of operating margin in the second half, reflecting the rephasing of our increased marketing investment and our anticipation of increased cost inflation across the balance of the year," it says, looking ahead.

AG Barr enjoying more than a rebound, says Train

AG Barr (BAG), the maker of Irn-Bru, is enjoying the rebound in sales post-pandemic but cost savings has also helped the business grow, says Lindsell Train manager Nick Train.

Train holds AG Barr in his £6.5bn Lindsell Train UK Equity fund and noted in his latest fund factsheet that the stock went up by over 10% in July.

‘In its trading update, Barr was able to report a stronger than expected rebound in its sales, as hospitality reopens and to forecast profits that will be higher, not just than last year, but higher too than in the previous pre-Covid-19 year,’ he said.

‘This profit advance is the result of growth from new products developed by Barr, combined with what appear to be permanent cost savings, accelerated by the crisis.’
Shares in AG Barr were edged up 2.3%, or 13p, to 573p yesterday.

Analysts at Shore Capital noted: “We warmly welcome this unscheduled update from Barr, a very high-quality business that has had to face into the major headwinds of Covid and the loss of the Rockstar business.

“Fundamentally, though, this is a great business with top-quality leadership, first-class manufacturing facilities, great British brands with regional position and authority, including Scotland’s own Irn-Bru, strong margins, excellent cash flow and a fine financial backbone.

“We would imagine that recent visitors to the group’s Cumbernauld base, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the Duke of Cambridge, will also be delighted to see today’s news.”

Glasgow's 11 greatest exports and inventions from Irn Bru to Chicken Tikka Masala

Irn Bru

Its radioactive colour may not be the most enticing but us Glaswegians were practically raised on this glorious blend of E numbers and artificial flavourings. But it’s not just Glasgow that loves the stuff. The fizzy drink, made right here in the city, is the best selling drink in Scotland, beating rivals Coca-Cola and Pepsi. These days you will find AG Barr’s classic drink all over the world. It’s even Russia's second favourite drink
