I said it was cheap on 25 March, so it was not surprising to see RO and other insiders buying since then.
So I guess it may recover further if others follow these purchases. |
Good to see the Non-Exec Chairman spending around £33k on more shares at 64.87p - he now has 20.39% of AEO:
In addition, on Tuesday Jonathan Curry declared that his position has increased to 3.78%, or 361,000 shares.
And thirdly, Alan Charlton declared that he'd also been buying and increased to 4.21%, or 401,130 shares. He's a long-term investor in AEO who's interviewed the CEO at Mello.
This is inaddition to the recent other non-exec director share buy. It would seem that insiders and those who know the company pretty well are happy to be topping up their already large holdings at these levels. |
I bailed on the open before it tanked. Poor update without much warning so my reason for investing has gone. Seems management doesn't have control so any future forecasts now very iffy |
Maybe this will help david as nico has not come back to you but he may just have been busy elsewhere I guess.

Hope it goes to zero and RO loses all his money No more than he deserves nico11517 Nov '19 - 15:07 - 476 of 509
In fact I now pray daily that the Lord above punishes RO so he has to suffer daily ..PG as they say !!

Nothing would make me happier than this to go to 0p and Owens made homeless
He is the lowest low life" |
Ask nico115 david. :-) |
Clocktower....Can you divulge what your concern is with RO as he has been there over ten years? |
I'm also not buying .I was waiting for these figs to see what cash balance is.I don't trust the numbers if I'm honest and when at Mellow the Ceo and Cfo gave me two different figs hence why I bought in so small here (was looking to buy on these figures )The cash figure is all important here so not having any idea what it is I won't be investing further .Hope we double as have a friend with a decent holding -he is an amazing investor . Hopefully he makes a lot of money here like he usually does . But for me I'm looking elsewhere to invest . |
It’s cheap now but I won’t be buying as I don’t buy anything that RO is involved in.
Good luck. |
The drop in cash changes the picture completely imo.
It’s going to be a struggle to rebuild and even with a good next half, it’s still going to leave a new more depressing picture for the following period. |
The swing in operating profit is matched almost exactly by the £570k increase in admin costs.
The income on that cash pile? £20. Not £20k but twenty pounds!
I note it says about maintaining our dividend “policy”, so not the dividend but the policy. Anyone know what that is? . |
I am long a small position st 73p and was waiting for figs to potentially add.My worry is that the cash balance isn't clean . Are we holding cash for clients ? The interest on cash is low . Very important to find out what the clean figure is . I think will be a lot lower than £3.7m !Will keep my small holding but won't be adding although on face of it could be a cheap esp on a mark down . |
I guess nico115 took his profit from his buying at 73p, hence the more recent drop.
Now what ? 😂 |
Everyone in shock?
Well, at least that explains the recent price action.
Clearly built an empire and increased costs substantially without the results needed.
Management reputation taken a huge knock here in my estimation. |
Well, H1 bad, H2 good....
With a £3.72m cash pile against the £7.1m m/cap, and a £650k expected profit for H2 and overall £400k+ profit for the year AEO still looks good value, particularly with the optimistic outlook. But the MMs will probably mark down anyway. |
In with your old mate Richard Owen nico115.
All is forgiven I assume.😊 |
Welcome aboard guys, nice to see a couple of specialist small cap investors join the party! |
I've also bought some at c.73p today as see 50pct upside here v quickly . |
I've been buying some of these recently. My final buy appears to have perhaps cleared out some stock and caused a tick up?
AEO looks very cheap at these levels considering both the progress made and the NAV security of the cash pile, plus the opportunities both organic and inorganic offered by that cash.
I'm not expecting this H1 to offer fireworks against the prior year given the renewed H2 weighting due mostly to Cannes Lions in June, but the results should be good enough to prompt a re-rating from these levels given the confidence in the general outlook and the current rating.
I was very impressed by the presentation at MelloLive late last year, and also like the extremely clean accounts and straightforward strategy and US expansion. |
It is actually 70/75 now and it looks like a seller of 50k has trashed the price. |
Make that 70/79! |
Yep, 78/87 for 10k quote online so I am sure you can deal within that with a telephone call.
Still no forecasts out there and apart from the regular awards announcements little in the way of trading news.
Like you say David, it is an act of faith. |
Just a reminder....

I have just been able to buy at 85p which is rather shocking as we were well over £1 here at Christmas and so we are now back where we were 15 months ago which makes no sense to me. These awards are great but I do think the next set of results will show the financial improvement to profits that did not match up to the solid growth we had last year. Patience needed and certainly not the time to be selling with the interims not far away |
