Accrol had a 3 minute cameo on the channel 4 show "secrets of supermarket own brands" tonight showing their automated Blackburn factory.
MCB also had a couple of mentions.
Retail analyst said customers move to own brands at times of financial stress but rarely move back to the big brands later.

No change in Premier Miton since 24/03/2023 when they passed 10%.
Schroders may still be selling around this price.
1m traded in low 36s since 7.48m trade on 17th.
FY results were 06/09 last year with notification 4 weeks earlier.
By September H1 contracts and volumes will be in the bag so guidance should be positive if input prices have fallen as I believe.

Schroders were the seller of the above trade but no declared buyer of the 2.3%. Schroders were a buyer as recently as June.
Joint broker Zeus have been sitting as a seller of 50,000 at 36.5 for several weeks on L2
Today a buyer bought 133832 at 37.0078, Zeus were taken out at 50k at 36.5. Several other chunky trades.

MCB gave a FY trading update today. They sell to the same UK customers as ACRL plus to Europe and Asia, selling own brand cleaning products.
MCB have struggled with input inflation over the last 2 years but appear to of turned a corner with two profit and debt upgrades this year. MCB say Q4 (30/06/23) volumes were up 12.7% in part due to "it is evident that there is a shift to private label... products as they seek to mitigate the effects of inflation on their household budgets."
I think ACRL is a better run less complicated business than MCB but MCB has more share price upside if things go to plan.
I'm still very overweight ACRL and slightly overweight MCB

Wilko are a ACRL customer.
"Wilko landlords face no rent for three years as it prepares for CVA"

In January "Suppliers to Wilko have had their credit insurance withdrawn according to reports"

Wilko's problems have been known about for a while so ACRL should have had time to take action or take account of any losses in the recent May trading update.

Another pandemic cannot be ruled out at this stage, and bidets are unlikely to penetrate the market, so all of this certainly commands a premium.

A drop in the wholesale price of loo rolls could be seen as worrying, but ACRL said in the webcast that they would benefit as prices fell in a similar but opposite way to the way they lost out when costs rose.

I had been expecting a more positive outlook at the last update and an upgrade in broker forecasts as what has been said in the webcasts has indicated this.
I am hoping that ACRL are not guiding higher yet to minimise pressure from customers. If ACRL were predicting record profits customers would demand lower prices.
By the time of final results in September, H1 results will be nearly in the bag and contracts in place for rest of the calendar year.

Accrol Group Holdings (LON:ACRL) – Certainly Nothing To Cry About
The forecast for the year to end April 2023, see the UK’s leading independent tissue converter jacking up its turnover by 51.6% to £241.8m (£159.5m) and with its adjusted pre-tax profits multiplying more than six-fold to £7.0m (£1.1m). That should boost earnings from 0.3p to 1.8p per share.

CEO Gareth Jenkins commented:

“Accrol is significantly well invested and fully automated.

With our enviable customer base, broadening revenue streams, spare capacity and excellent levels of customer service, the Group is very well placed to take further advantage of the changing dynamics in consumer spending, which is particularly evident in the tissue market.

We are pleased with the outcome for FY23 and look forward to the year ahead and beyond with increasing confidence.”

Analysts Rachel Birkett and Mike Allen at Zeus Capital now have estimates for the current year to end April 2024 for £230.3m sales, £11.0m profits and 2.6p earnings per share.

Gradually this £113.5m capitalised group is getting itself sorted out and is now progressing at a pace.

Last December, when the shares were 28p, I forecast a re-rating in 2023. Now with its shares at 34.4p they have a lot further to rise yet.
