"Tesla's (NASDAQ:TSLA) production line upgrade at its Shanghai unit is paying off as its August vehicle deliveries in China at 76,965 surged by ~173%" So production has recovered from the July dip. What they fail to point out is that it's below the June numbers. They wouldn't be trying to justify the valuation with headline figures would they.

Not so Dominic - according to Buywells article - see my post 9771. They are only up to L2!

I think the decision not to use Lidar has set them back a long way

Because Tesla are, have been, and look like they will continue to be several steps ahead of the competition.

And why should it make money for Tesla rather than the umpteen hundred other EVs now on the drawing board or in production?

Perhaps but not for a long time imo. I can understand forklift trucks etc. which are confined to a set route in a factory. Heathrow airport World Caro Centre had an automated system in place 20 years ago.

I’m time these robotaxis will cost little more than a comparable conventional taxi. It will happen in time and there will be much lower demand for personally owned cars in city’s and densely populated areas as a result. Who would ever have thought that hordes of forklift & pallet truck driving labourers in warehouses would be replaced by legions of self driving stock picking bots? But they have / and will continue to be.
I am not for or against - in fact I am a bit of a petrol head me’sen - merely pointing out that the progress of technology will prevail at some point - the only uncertainty is the ‘when’ imco.

It's not though. How much will these robotaxis cost to buy/build and how long before the money is recovered? They are single purpose items so depreciation will be a big factor. Then you have to set up all these operator stations and employ people to monitor them all. It's just pure fantasy.

I honestly can't see the big infatuation with robotaxis. What's the big deal with getting in a taxi with no driver? Do people not want to talk anymore. I heard some great stories from taxi drivers.

Robotaxis - long long way to go.
Fortunatey this passenger only slightlly injured, but ONE dead passenger would send the entire industry back several years i suspect.

Interesting piece about VWs problems with software. However (IMO) we are entering a period where all this has to take a back seat - as most people will be worried about whether they can afford to pay their mortgage, keep their house warm and buy food as well

I'd have thought we've just started. TNAV now around $11. so final target must be well under $20

And with a massive recession on the way both in the US and Europe, this could be its only profitable year for some time. When the Mortgage payments suddenly rise from 1500 to 4000 a month, the New Tesla on order may need to be put on hold

"TSLA market cap is currently $902.7B and has a P/E ratio of 104.10." Ridiculous.

Yes we are headed into totally unpredictable times - hyperinflation being cited as a possibility.
My Alfa diesel may be socially unacceptable these days but on long runs I can get 50+ to the gallon and I only do a couple of thousand miles pa anyway. I probably won't be allowed to drive into town soon, but I have a free bus pass

"BMWs and Audis are out – instead, dealerships report an increase in demand for used cars, particularly mid-range models such as Vauxhall Corsa, Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus in the past two months. There has also been a drop in the number of people seeking to lease vehicles, with those who do so wanting cheaper deals." High end motors starting to take a hit. Although the article states BMW's and Audi's I think this will include Tesla's too, especially since the hike in electricity prices makes them comparative to an efficient petrol car.
