Among the companies with shares expected to trade actively in Thursday's session are Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (ANF), Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) and Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD).

Abercrombie & Fitch's fiscal second-quarter profit fell 33%, missing the company's own estimates, as the teen-apparel retailer recorded a sharp drop in same-store sales, particularly in the U.S. Shares tumbled 18% to $38.61 premarket as the company, like its peers, offered a current-quarter profit view below consensus expectations. Shares of fellow teen retailer, Aeropostale Inc. (ARO), also fell, dropping 4.4% to $10.92 premarket.

Hewlett-Packard swung to a fiscal third-quarter profit as a hefty write-down weighed on the technology giant's year-earlier results and the company also reported a revenue decline. H-P also unveiled a handful of executive changes. Shares fell 7.7% to $23.42 premarket as revenue came up short of expectations, although the bottom line number was in line with expectations.

Sears sharply widened its fiscal second-quarter loss as the retailer logged lower revenue and its margins were pressured. Shares fell 6.4% to $40.49 premarket.

SunEdison Inc. (SUNE) on Thursday unveiled plans to spinoff its semiconductor business into a separately traded public company. Shares of SunEdison jumped 15% to $7.80 in recent premarket trading.

Hain Celestial Group Inc.'s (HAIN) fiscal fourth-quarter profit jumped 11% as the organic-products company reported sharply higher sales, led by growth in the U.K. The better-than-expected quarterly results, along with rosy outlook targets for the new year, sent the company's shares up 6.7% to $77.77 premarket.

Steel producer AK Steel Holding Corp. (AKS) agreed to pay a $1.65 million civil penalty to resolve alleged violations of the Clean Air Act in Kentucky. Under the terms of the settlement, announced by the Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency, $25,000 of the penalty will be paid to Kentucky for alleged Clean Air Act violations that occurred at the company's coke production facility in Ashland, Ky. The site was shut down in 2011.

Guess Inc. (GES) has named Chief Information Officer Michael Relich chief operating officer, filling a position that has been open since November. Mr. Relich has served as the clothing company's information chief for the past nine years, during which he has led a number of areas including information technology, e-commerce and strategic planning.

L Brands Inc.'s (LTD) fiscal second-quarter profit grew 25% as the retailer reported higher same-store sales at Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works. L Brands raised its full-year view but issued an outlook for the current quarter that missed Wall Street's expectations.

Semtech Corp.'s (SMTC) fiscal second-quarter earnings jumped 91% as the chip manufacturer continued to report revenue growth and improved margins. However, the company offered downbeat current-quarter guidance, citing weaker demand and inventory corrections at several of its largest smartphone customers.

Maker of 3D printing equipment ExOne Co. (XONE) unveiled an offering of 2.7 million shares. ExOne itself is offering 1.1 million shares, and several of the company's biggest shareholders, including Chief Executive S. Kent Rockwell, are offering 1.6 million shares.
