BRUSSELS--The European Commission Tuesday said it would accept proposals from three airlines to ease concerns about competition on transatlantic flights.
The commission, the European Union's main antitrust regulator, said it had decided to make the proposals by Air France/KLM, Alitalia and Delta--all members of the SkyTeam alliance--legally binding on the companies for 10 years.
In 2009 and 2010, the three airlines signed cooperation agreements for transatlantic flights. The commission worried the agreements could limit competition on flights between Rome, Paris and Amsterdam and New York.
"With today's decision I want to ensure that passengers flying from Paris, Amsterdam or Rome to New York continue to benefit from competitive prices and choice," said Margrethe Vestager, the EU's antitrust commissioner.
