Tesla to Recall Over 36,000 Vehicles in China

Tesla Inc. will recall more than 36,000 vehicles in China due to potential display-screen failures, a move that comes days after the electric-car giant announced a large-scale recall in the U.S. over similar issues.

Tesla plans to recall some imported Model S vehicles manufactured between 2013 and 2018, as well as certain imported Model X vehicles made between 2016 and 2018, according to a statement on Friday by China's State Administration for Market Regulation.

These cars have displays that could malfunction after certain components reach their capacity limit, the regulator said, citing information from Tesla. This may indirectly lead to rear-view camera malfunction, defrost- and defogging-control failures and loss of turn-signal functionality, the regulator added.

Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tesla, which has faced pressure from U.S. regulators over the issues, on Tuesday told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it would recall around 135,000 cars, marking one of its largest-ever safety actions.
