Tesla Inc. is recalling about 30,000 imported Model S and Model X vehicles with suspension problems in China, an increasingly important market for the U.S. electric-car maker amid global economic weakness.
The company will recall imported vehicles manufactured between Sept. 17, 2013, and Jan. 15, 2018, according to a statement by the State Administration for Market Regulation on Friday.
The units have either one or both of two suspension defects that may affect vehicle control after certain external impacts, the authority said, noting that Tesla has registered a recall plan with it.
Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comments.
The recall will apply to a large portion of the company's sales in China in recent years, prior to a surge in sales volume in 2020 when Tesla started production at its Shanghai plant and reduced unit prices.
