1450 ET -- Costco Wholesale is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the last 12 hours, according to Factiva data. Third-quarter earnings per share were $2.93, which included a charge of 50 cents a share primarily for discontinuation of charter shipping activities. This compares with $3.04 a year earlier, which included a charge of 13 cents a share for incremental employee benefits. Shares were recently up 4.6%, to $508.86. Costco said its daily transaction amount fell, partly due to weaker sales of big-ticket items like home furnishings and electronics.
