Norwegian Energy Co. ASA said Wednesday that it has entered a partnership to develop carbon capture and storage in the Danish North Sea.
Project Bifrost--led by the Danish Underground Consortium and developed in conjunction with Oersted AS and the Technical University of Denmark--will evaluate the potential for CO2 transportation and storage at the Harald field in the Danish North Sea, reusing existing North Sea infrastructure while demonstrating CO2 storage in a depleted offshore gas field.
The Danish Underground Consortium--which consists of TotalEnergies SE, Norwegian Energy and Nordsofonden--produces 97% of gas and 85% of oil from the Danish North Sea.
The newly formed partnership has applied for funding under the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme, or EUDP, a Danish public subsidy scheme, to develop and select the transport and storage concept for Project Bifrost, the company said.
The scope of the EUDP application includes a study on the potential of utilizing additional DUC North Sea reservoirs as they become available, as well as the possibility of using existing pipeline infrastructure connecting DUC fields to Denmark.
