fb - beats talking to the wife at least!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember Barcs clients, ask for compensation & just state you will take this to the ombudsman service - their £100 & £200 compensation offers to me have added up to nearly £2,000 since the so called smart investor started - incompetent fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted at 05/9/2019 17:04 by enfranglais
Actually rec`d my funds today at 0.0342873 sterling per share (100,000).
Also rec`d £100 compensation a few weeks ago for the delays & my time taken to resolve issue (from smart investor) & still chasing further compensation from Barclayshare Private clients.
For you friends information, i was in smart investor (which does not hold foreign stocks) & my Antrim shares were held in a Barclays stockbokers private clients execution only account & i rec`d quarterly consolidated valuation reports.
As an example of their incompetence, they had the book cost of 100,000 shares at 326,200,000.00 CAD & the unrealised gain as £178,984.910.84!!!!!!!
Pity their incompetence did not run to paying out the £179 million, or i would have sent it abroad & they would not have seen me for dust!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the best to anyone having to deal with the barstewards & only keep a few duds with Barclays now for the compensation trail - running into the thousands now!!!!!!!!!

Just FYI, I know someone else who has yet to receive their funds from Barclays and their customer service has been appalling. They have had many phone calls with them and after a lot of wasted time there is still no resolution. Another message has been sent to them by email, some excerpts below:

"Barclays are unable to locate my Antrim shares as they believe the company liquidation coincided with the Barclays migration to Smart Investor and things have fallen between the cracks. Barclays gave me details of Saxo Bank as they thought the shares may have been transferred to them. Saxo had not heard of me but were extrememly polite and professional in helping me.

Barclays now think my shares are held in a 'container' account."

Barclays have been asked the following questions:
"
1. Have Barclays found my Antrim Shares?
2. Have the shares been converted into funds?
3. How do I get hold of these funds?
4. What other of my share holdings have fallen between the cracks in the migration to Smart Investor in 2017?"

If there is any any news I'll try to report it back here.

Charles Schwab has informed me that there is some international law to goes into effect when a defunct company is paying a final large $$ distribution (not nearly what it should be) such as this to investors in other countries. This gives the institutions time to verify there is no funny business (drug payout, weapons/missile purchase, etc...) going on behind the distribution. They claimed that "at a minimum" the average timetable can be as little as 5 weeks and no more than 2 months from the claimed distribution date. The law also states the banks are not allowed to benefit from interest appreciation either. Parts of the explanation make sense to me and parts don't. Hope this helps.

Seems we must just wait for our brokers - though difficult for Barclays clients, as they only accept snail mail & am still awaiting a response for my last letter 3 weeks ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning,
Thank you for your recent inquiry.
Please be advised that all the funds have been pushed out to registered shareholders including their predecessor holders. You would need to contact your broker or custodian regarding the payments.
Should you have any other questions or require further information, please contact our office at the toll free number 1-800-387-0825 or by e-mail at inquiries@astfinancial.com

Kind Regards,

sent 23/07/2019 - To Glasgow (of course, no reply rec`d to date!!!!!!!):

Dear Sirs,

BARCLAYS STOCKBROKERS – PRIVATE CLIENTS – CUSTODY ONLY
ANTRIM ENERGY SHARES

We have tried to contact you via the secure messaging service of Smart Investor & they have stated that we have to write direct to yourselves !!!!!

Our message was as follows :

REF: BSTK ##################### INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO EXECUTION ONLY

Hi,
Further to this account set up to hold our overseas holding in Antrim Energy, we have now been informed that this Canadian stock in liquidation will be paid out to shareholders, on or about the 01/08/2019.
As your last portfolio valuation dated the 30/06/2019 states that our unrealised gains are to an estimated value of £178,984,910.84, i am interested in how we are to invest this apparent windfall!!!!!!!!!! (the incompetence of Barclays Stockbrokers never fails to surprise me)!!!!
In reality, we expect to receive about £3,350, subject to any fees for the conversion of the Canadian dollars & would like to arrange for you to transfer the proceeds, as soon as they are rec`d to our joint account with Barclays #######################
Please confirm that this has been arranged & we just hope that the Inland Revenue do not have access to those valuations, as it would be difficult to explain how we obtained the supposed book cost of 326,200,000.00 CAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No need to explain how 5 portfolio valuations were issued giving these figures without apparent checks, as we are already well aware of your incompetent management!!!!!!!

Please act on the above request & confirm receipt of our instruction,

Yours,

Barclays "Smart" Investor:

webchat (couldn't face phoning...) gist is your shares in AEY are now held in a client nominee account (they couldn't be held in my smart investor isa as they 'didn't qualify') - he gave me an address to write to for an update.

WRITE TO THEM! he wouldn't / couldn't give me any phone or email contacts! This is 2019 is said!

So I have initiated a formal complaint.

Clueless.

It will be interesting to see how Barclays deals with this - they've been hopeless so far.

AEY was not eligible to be included in a Smart Investor ISA account on migration from Barclays Stockbrokers, so it is now ring fenced in a Barclays Stockbroker Client ISA account. I can't face phoning them up just yet as it will mean hours on hold...again...

If anyone in a similar situation here should hear anything from Barclays, do please share!

thanks for the update all- received notice from interactive investors about the intended distribution but nothing on when it will be paid in...

For the information of anyone else who used Barclays Stockbrokers, before they changed to the (so called) Smart Investor:
I pm`d smart investor & was told (as above), that as the holding (100k) was held in a private clients, custody only account & to write to them at:
Barclays Stockbroker,
Tay House,
300 Bath Street,
Glasgow,
G24LH.
As they are totally incompetent, i also sent them instruction to which account the monies should be sent to on receipt & instructions to close the custody only account on transfer of the funds.
Their incompetence is advertised by the fact that i have been receiving quarterly consolidated valuation reports for this one shareholding, which have each stated:
QUANTITY 100,000
BOOK COST 326,200,000 CAD
UNREALISED GAINS GBP 178,984,910.84!!!!!!!!

I did state in my letter, that as you expect me to realise gains of nearly £179 million, perhaps you could arrange a call from one of your wealth advisers, so we can discuss how to invest the proceeds & mitigate any capital gains tax!!!!!!LOL
