A channel consists of a top page, a number of item pages, and some (optional) article pages.
Top Page
The top page gives an overview of the topic for the channel (ie brokers or IPOs) and lists the items that come under the topic with a little information about each. It can also have a spotlight item and up to four featured items, which as well as appearing in the list have a box of their own showing more information and an image – the sales team will selling this feature to companies.
The top page may also have links to articles of relevance to the channel topic.
Item Pages
The item pages give information about the individual item. A channel should have at least five item pages.
Article Pages
The optional article pages are for articles which are of relevance to the topic of the channel, for example giving background information or in-depth analysis.
The pages for the channel are built using the ADVFN content management system (CMS), which is available to anyone who has an ADVFN account flagged as “staff advanced”.
The CMS provides a set of templates in which you fill in fields with text or data. It then assembles your input to build the page on the site which anyone can see.
You can use CMS to build pages on any of the ADVFN sites – UK, IH, JP or whatever.
