This is one to be with right now: precious metals are money governments can't devalue.

I am a new holder of this etc and I am showing a proffit. The cxhart looks good but it did half at one point during the last 18 months and has almost doubled during the last 12 months. Does anybody have a view on how this etc is likely to move short term/medium term and the reasoning behind it.

Regards

There is no difference investment-wise between PHAU and PHPP or whatever the gold ETF is which is in £. At any given moment the price of gold in £ will be the same in both ETFs.

Whichever one you buy, your profit or loss will depend on gold's move v the £.

The difference in PHAU is that your holding can increase or decrease in value as a result of moves in the £ which aren't measured in the price.

However, almost all discussion of the price of gold is in $ and so personally I prefer to have my investment measured in dollars.

Hi anyone,

My understanding is that this etf is in USD, whereas PHPP (the same basket) is in £. I assume the currency does have an effect if sterling moves v's USD?

Tks in advance

With the recent rapid rise in the u/l constituents' prices, the trend seems to be in place for further rises. I have bought in today.
