Apart from a multitude of other negatives surrounding Bula, just look at the number of shares in issue! It would take a substantial stake in a mega-oil discovery to increase the NAV per share by more than a jot. Answer me one question! Why would a country like Libya, or any other, hand out a stake to a worthless company like Bula with a frightful track-record, little or no cash and a history that includes litigation, scams and double-dealing? Oh! And a second question! Why would anyone want to invest( give away money?) to a company like that?

serina, i`am after geting an email from a substanical Bula holder telling me to `keep the faith` and saying "4 weeks to go!"
BK, Ther has been take over speculation involving Ryan hotels. I know the Mc Eniff brothers from Donegal were buying up shares last year (at much higher levels than now) and there was talk of a bid, also an Isreali group were also building a stake. They were mentioned as cheap in the press a week ago.
Dury`s also could be a good punt.
Benchmark, As i say there is possibly something in the off with Bula, so at moment can`t agree with you there, but i was told that Kerry was a good play.

Sid,
I reckon there is some profit taking going on. The push forward has been well sustained. I am considering getting out and buying AIB. I'm usually slow in making up my mind but by next wednesday I'll know and post here. I feel IPM have huge potential over the next 2 years.
I'm thinking, I'm thinking ?????

Hello all.
I've just discovered this thread.
Did you know that for the year 2000 the FTSE 100 dropped 10%.
In the same time the Top Ten companies on the ISEQ [Irish Stock Exchange] gained 24.7%. A better performance by 34.7%.
To dolgyn - what a sad person you are.
Never heard of PRE
Dragon, like all exploration stock, are a pure gamble - stick to horses.
Easyscreen are not listed on the ISEQ.
Baltimore - if you are stupid enough to write them off at this stage stop investing.

Here are the performances of some of the top 10 mentioned above in 2000

Elan - ELA - +59%
Allied Irish Bank - ALBK -+18%
Bank of Ireland - BKIR - +32.5%
CRH - CRH - -6.3% [see them since]
IL&P - IPM - +26.8%
Ryanair - RYA - +106.4%
Kerry Group - KYGA - +17.9%
Galen Hldgs - GAL - +48%
Smurfitt - SMFT - -28.5%
Eircom - EIR - -36.75%

There are many other Irish stocks that outperformed the above and there are some that lost.
For those who hold Eircom :
1] Sue Mary O'Rourke for hyping these so recklessly at launch
2] Hold on. The e-Island bid has not been accepted although it may be. However, it will only give you Euro's 1.10 per share you hold. Then, you will get just under one Vodaphone share for every two Eircom you hold - provided Vodaphone are trading at a minimum of Stg£2.28 on the day of closure in March. This will still leave you well short of the Euro 3.90 price at floatation. In other words if everything goes well you will hold shares in Vodaphone. Your future is with them.
Check out AIB GAL and IPM. As usual DYOR.
Black Bush is by far the best whiskey in the world. Not only do the Scots not know how to make [blend !!] whiskey, they cannot even spell it right.

BK, glad to see you made it.
I see ALBK is starting to drift back a bit, now about 1220, i would of thought that with the results coming out later this month they would rise. I must admit i`am a little disapointed.

Serina, Reflex Group, have taken a look at them, big spread. Do you know anything about them, what i mean is anything good.

Bye for now. S

sensible sid,

Was a great song writer Towns Van Zandt and Van The Man is not bad either.

As for Eircom? Having met all the director at one time or another there is little hope now for them and as a result for us in the short/medium term.

As you no doubt know a majority of directors at a meeting on Tuesday indicated they were in favour of the takeover approach.

eIsland's new bid is an incresed bid of @ €2.4bn (all- be -it for the whole of eircom)and if the consortium were to take on the current debt of say 400m add on further debt to compensate workers who could loose out on the share deal with Vod say €40m costs involved in current round of sackings and layoff's of employees in Eircoms part owned companies and sundries say €60. Then his bid would come to around €2.8/9bn.

I have as you know (elsewhere) stated O'Brien has no need to increse his bid's, why should he. The sector has not yet hit the bottom, 70% of the board are time servers and are not even sure what business they are in. The large share holders want out as do the institutions and the 14% and 21% over hang share holders, some holders of 1 and 2 million shares have recently sold as have some of the major institutions at a loss- not a happy place for the retail shareholders.

What could now happen to save the face of corporate Ireland, the banks, advisers and politicians (forget not that some government have further state IPO's to handle in Ireland) will be working behind the Eircom board to sell it as a friendly bid/takeover and therefore avoiding a hostile bid-approach to the large and retail share holders.
A hostile bid would have all manner of ramifications to the above mentioned groups and for that reason's I can see it going through quite in what form I am not sure yet.
serina

PS Reflex Group take a look it is more the people who have tied up there own money in the company and for how long.

Irish whiskey is far smooter than most of the scotch whisky for one thing and I had better get now before things come flying at me for that last remark.

serina, don`t know much about Reflex.
What way do yo think Eircom is going to go now?
serina, hmnnn, that`s a big change from Van.

melfaraj, From Tyrone myself, never really aquired a taste for whisky, but drink about everything else.

Those Kenmare Resources are starting to do the bus, up 1.5p today.

Ashley, Any hot news on Mining stocks and we will be glad to hear from you.

sensible sid,

are you irish, if so what is this business about irish whisky being distilled 3 times as opposed to the scottish counter part being distilled only twice. (some would argue it would be more effective to leave some impurities behind, shuch as meth!)-just jocking, don't ever try it or you won't be able to see your monitor or stock or bottle of whisky. i enjoy both, but can't tell the difference, but then i am not a connisseur of whisky.

sid and serina, professional investors buy fewer stock but after careful research.

Sensible Sid,
You could say that. But I couldn't possible say that. Re the "Guys".We seem to have been joined there now by a few, who should we say? Like to do their own research!!!! Lets hope they have a wide portfolio and not one share as they accuse. I always run about 15 companies in mine.

I hope you are right about AR, mind you I still thing I preferred Alby when he used to lead a country and western show band around Irish dance halls. I am a bit worried about the way he wants do do business with Libya without contracts.
But could still be worth a punt

What do you think of Reflex Group I missed out on them when they went up well last year.
Serina

PS Darkspeed has a good point re Smurfit.

Sid,

I got mullered by Stentor some months ago,not a fave, now gone to Nevada Tele.con thank God, but now the mining and oil plays, there can be some mileage!

Conroy Diamonds and Gold plc took off last month, European Gold Resources Inc Cavanacaw Gold one for the future, Petrel Resources PLC, Navan Mining Plc has been a ripper, Celtic Resources Plc worth a look Russian Gold play.

The Irish are moving fast on the mining front, and I might add getting noticed!

Best regards

Ashley

Serina, welcome
I hope you haven`t gone through 3 pair of whiskey glasses watching Bula, because it would drive you to drink.
I first bought them at 2.75p a few months back (Sept), down hill ever since and last week i bought some more at 1p after a bit of a boardroom squabble.
They are now at 1.25/1.5 and 2p see`s me clear , big gamble but i have some faith in AR doing the bus.
I hope i was right when i said you "GUYS" don`t lie in.
Hope Eircom can pick it`s self up as i have 4250 of these, half bought at 420 (never to be seen again) and half at 250.

melfaraj, i`am wrong about the stamp duty it`s still 1% no matter if you buy in UK or ROI (Republic of ireland) i have just checked some of my contract notes.
I`am not a big investor of penny stocks but i have favourites and no1 is Kenmare Resources (kmr). People say get to know your stocks and i know this one inside out. Over 10 years i have bought and sold at least 6/7 times Allways making a good profit. I bought again yesterday spread was 19/19.5 and at close it was 19.5/20. They have a mine in Mozambique and their final phesibility study is out this month, so have high hopes again. Bought 20k shares on a t10.

sensible sid,

i am not sure about getting round the high stamp duty. how does it work, more details pls. and what is roi, is it the irish counterpart to lse here.

i also see that you buy one or two pence value stock. have you made money on such stock. what the percentage spread would be on such stock, is it not horrendous.
