With IEase they reccomended Metaload for MS. Paid £60 for it, couldn't work out how it worked. Support at IEase couldn't help and they couldn't even get in contact with the guys who'd produced Metaload. I gave up at that point!

Yes i have broadband but not sure about whether the size will get thru. Have had some big files thru b4 so shud be ok.

I really do appreciate what u have done and if u are ever up on an ADVFN do then i owe u a few beers.

Been trying to fiddle around with Metastock over last couple of days but its been to long i guess as really struggling to workout which format i have this in. Trouble is ive managed to mislay the manual too so it looks like im going to have to carry on fiddling.

Data missing goes back to 10th of FEB 2001

I use IEase to update Metastock 7.2 and haven't had any problems whatsoever updating it.

The settings I use:(Field no's: SEAQ,D,FormattedDate,Open,High,Low,Close,Volume,0
Date Order: Descending; Separator: Comma; Volumes: Vol/1000

I use software called "Microvest for Windows" to convert the Data into Metastock. I believe there is a free version of Metacare but couldnt figure out how to set it up, so bought Microvest a few years ago.

I've tried and failed with IEase and ADVFN.

In the past used Winrow - very nice man David Rouse runs it, but it is a little expensive and didn't cover the whole mkt.

I'm using Paritech at the mo and they are good. I've also downloaded from Sharescope, but haven't found a way of adding data simply - so it means downloading everything again instead of just a daily update. Also their OHLCV data only goes back to 2000.

Thanks for the reply mg, I eventually worked out how to get advfn data into MS, couldn't work it out with Investor Ease - always seemed to get incomplete data when selecting a large date range - I think they were too big as EOD data worked fine.

Techair, if u have the downloader with MS it's quite simple. I saved the files from advfn as metastock files (.met) using MMDDYY as date option, and then in the downloader chose tools, convert and use ACSII text as the source type and Metastock as destination. I think the downloader maybe free to download from Equis website, but I don't know what versions it's compatible with.

A problem with ADVFN data is u can only download 5 stocks at a time of historic data back to 97 (possibly restrictions on size), altho saving the individual files was time consuming u can select them all in the downloader - then leave it running for a few hours !! Also bank holidays (which ADVFN have with zero values) can be deleted in the downloader.

Now the happy owner of metastock 8 with historic data back to 97 for FTSE 350 ! with EOD from ADVFN daily.

Another useful website is downloadquotes.com, they charge monthly fees for downloads however have free world indices back to 98!! These can be saved as .prn (ASCII) files and uploaded in the downloader in the same way.

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who knows any inexpensive historic data sites for the US markets.

techair, I gave up on ADVFN's data years ago, too unreliable for me. I use investorease.

You can remove your email, what date range(s) do you want?

The format I use (for metacarebase) is EPIC,D,Date,open,high,low,close,volume,0

Date is in YYYYMMDD format, e.g BT.A,D,20040308,180,181,179,179,1000000,0 (not real data).

Had my metastock chart software for a while now but havent used it for a few years. Now tho there is an obvious gap in the data on it.

Went to download the missing bits from the ADVFN data area and it didnt allow me to do it.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get round this problem

I used david winrow marketing - maybe not the cheapest but ok for what I wanted downloads in excel format.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone out there is using Metastock and could give me some advice on data providers and how to get historic data into MS. Can you recommend any good providers with easy export facilities and then how to import the data in Meta friendly format..?

I am trialing Investor Ease, but cant figure out the correct format to export data, I am using there standard setting which there help desk tell me are correct for MS - I have tried using the convert command in the downloaded after exporting .txt files from IEase but the data I am getting makes no sense.

Please can anyone help

I'm trying to use the "PS StochRSI" indicator in an exploration, have anyone done this before, can't seem to get it to trigger when the value crosses 80/20?

What you need to do is backtest with data from say 2000 and 2001 to get the indicator that gives the best fit, then forward test to see how well that indicator has done in 2002 (i.e. without the indicator being optimised with 2002 data). Then report back.
