A quick 30% today. Absolutely silly.
It seems manual traders have already booked profits and are out after margin calls, but trading algorithms took over this morning self perpetuating the sharp fall as they all received sell signals.

All depends how much it recovers now.
Nigeria increased exports, though the underlying story hasn't changed.

HL closed trading for a while due to a disorderly market, and sell price higher than buy price

Yet, conditions for shortage in cocoa production still prevail..

Ironic.

..or, a godsend of a buying opportunity..?

News that exchanges are asking for more margin to hold positions, so many longs have closed.

Been in since feb if you do research you will find 70% cocoa comes from ivory coast and ghana where the processors have either stopped or reduced capacity to 20% due to poor bean harvest, smuggling, root disease plus processors cant afford higher prices etc etc can only go higher.Back in 1970s cocoa went to equivalent to 24,000 dollars without much destruction of demand.manufacturers just reduce size of easter eggs so same price this year as last year but no one remembers the weight change as they still say xl big con artists

A few commentators saying it's reached fair value, but that these things tend to overshoot and could go stupidly higher as speculation takes over with fomo.

It has come up a fair bit recently McBean, but look at the hight of year 2011 chart! over $40. Close watch for me. I think SUGA should take off next 1-2 months it usually does, but if Cocoa takes off, the rise would be stronger.

My thoughts for now are long cocoa, precious metals, agricultural softs (eg: grains), short industrial metals, and I've taken a flyer on leveraged long natural gas. I'm also short US financials, the S&P 500 and the FTSE.

As things stand right now, I do not think we'll be having a recovery any time soon in the general economy, here, in the US or anywhere alse. Maybe longer term emerging markets may be good. That reminds me, I'm long Australia for both currency and the economy.

Thanks for that. I have a few ETF's on my list to follow, including this one, and will now have a closer look. No, you're not talking to yourself :)

With the problems facing cocoa producing, popularity of chocolate (though quality chocolate temporarily losing out to cheap and supermarket brands)and the shortages to come resulting from disease and drought, now is the time to take a long position, particularly as prices are down from their highs.

I may just be talking to myself here.
