The Draghi effect boosting mainland Europe but FTSE lagging behind badly. On top of that our shares not doing so well today as too many companies down with more waffle from the dog CPI, the Pharma malaise bringing down SHP & BTG, emerging market concerns still affecting ADN & STAN.

Nevertheless, offloaded a small amount of L100 @ 895.9 and shrunk our CPI stake so stock level down to 63.7%.

Typically, FTSE not following through this AM...presumably waiting for some give in the DOW. The earlier 6919 could actually be top of wave and it may well slip below 6800 again over the next day or two. A c(61.80%) give back would lead to c6771.

Probably need to reappraise the situation with regard to FTSE and it may well be that we are still several weeks away from a proper correction and that the 6677 recorded on 4 Nov is actually the base for a fourth segment for FTSE albeit still likely to be a bolt-on. This in turn means that last Friday's 6679 was probably a secondary base and that FTSE could well put in the c08.00% rally originally envisaged leading to c7211 and probably before the end of the year.

Consequently, banked some more losses on the spread...down c(532) points and just hold a £1 FTSE short @ 6925.

I will also slow up on the banking of Tracker profits.

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit cantankerous!

DOW has extended its Up wave to 22 days and put on 09.36% and shows no signs of stopping. Gotta fancy this is a pukka fourth segment with 20K well on the cards. In recent years January's have been difficult so it could be quite likely that, at least America, starts the new Year positively for a change. Short-term there ought to be some give back, however, so FTSE will need to get a move on if it is to take advantage of the current climate of American optimism.

- Buy & Hold
- Trade (frequently) the swings Up & Down

BOTH are better than having the money sitting in a High Street Bank earning 0.25% pa or thereabouts!

Wrong again, Invisage...it was a surprise to me that FTSE didn't go below 6677 but I knew it was in the ballpark for a rally of c05.00% or so to start near the beginning of Dec...and that is why I loaded up quite heavily on Trackers and am enjoying the benefits currently. So, calling the markets is not impossible, one just has to cover most of the bases. It may be impossible for you but suggesting that everybody else is similarly disadvantaged is unacceptable and also a tad annoying.

Sunday night FTSE was trading at below 6700...3 days on it is over 6900Rise totally out of the blue. Thats why I prefer to be invested as calling the markets is impossible.

I think, more typically, xmas rally does start fairly early in Dec and then fizzles out in last couple of weeks albeit there are often strong spikes in some stocks in the closing days.

Be nice to get back to +20% for the year, but don't think that will happen.

If this is a Santa rally, it's very early. Last year, the Santa rally did not start till just a few days before Christmas.

Yes, a tad annoyed at your repeated suggestions that I should trade less...you don't seem to understand that there are other successful methods of investing than Buy & Hold.

Dropped worst of 50p shorts so now £2.00 short @ average of 6905.4. Total losses on spread now stand @ (440) points or (£220) which equates to about (06.50%) of the total portfolio gains so far this week...in my book that is an inexpensive hedge which may yet turn a profit!

Pat

I don't think many understand how markets work, if they did most would'nt have called for a collapse on a Trump/Brexit victory, the opposite happened as you know.

You seem quite annoyed going by the rest of your comments.

Irrelevant, Invisage. You keep banging the same drums and, quite frankly, despite all your grandiose claims, I don't really think you understand how markets work in any practical way.

Our investments improved 01.71% today which was a slight underperformance to FTSE100 which rose 01.81% (FTSE250 and Techmark a lot weaker). We had 35 Shares Up, 6 Down and 1 Unchanged. Overall, stock level reduced to 64.7% following profit taking and sale of about 16% of our FTSE100 Tracker shares.
