Hi jak.

SNCL does look interesting, but have you looked into the pfd ? (taken from t'other SNCL thread):

PUGUGLY - 27 Sep'06 - 08:44 - 109 of 111

Accounts indicate some improvement but (imo) too many exceptionals to get a clear picture going forward. On balance while the pension fund deficit has improved it is still a whopping £5 million which is a lot for a company with a market cap of some £8.5 million. Tail wagging dog syndrome.

William Sinclair is one of the UK's leading producers of commercial horticulture and branded garden products. The company provides peat and fertiliser products to the retail and commercial sectors.

Although the company has a patchy track record, I believe the foundations are in place for a strong recovery, and the share price has begun to show signs of strength.

The following is what attracted me to the co:

PEG of under 0.4
Div yield of about 3.5%
PSR of 0.35
Strong cashflow
Last year they lost a contract to supply Wyevale Garden Centres when Wyevale was bought out, but they have since signed a new contract with them.
The co's sales and profits are heavily reliant on the summer weather being favourable, and I have read that this summer is going to be the hottest since records began.
They are launching new products and have been streamlining their ops, which will enhance profits.
The company owns 11 freehold properties
Directors bought, albeit small amounts, a few months ago.
Gartmore have been adding and now hold over 10% of the co.

I believe the shares have the potential to double on a 12 month view. Here is the link to their last set of results, which are worth a read imo:

Interesting.

Balcony answer maybe 8/12 RNS W &R Barnett now own 3% of company
Now why would a privately owned Northern Ireland animal feedstuff co be investing here? As a long term holder I was about to top slice and book a bit of profit but we are still only at NTAV and I smell corporate activity at some point -Don't think takeover would be near this price!

Hi,

Can't answer your question I'm afraid, but I am dubious about reading too much into one days price movement - sizeable though it was.

I wondered whether they had been tipped somewhere?

Very best

What is happening with this old chestnut, is it starting to come right at last? Somebody has started to buy, what do they know? figures are due out soon. Looks like the classic turn around. New management team, cutting costs. What is the chance of an MBO after these figures? I have seen the massive site right in the heart of Lincoln... must be worth a bomb, sell the J Arthur Bowers name to another composter and somebody is going to make some serious money even after the pension defecit of £5 million is paid off. Is it too late to buy, will it go out at 80 / 85p?

on 16th jan I postulated as to why this was rising.
These results are a terrible indictment of the company. Riddled with assets and making losses. Sell it.

last year the results came out on the 1/3.
We should have this years results by now. Why not?

Either good results for the first 6 months of the year up to 31/12 or bidder in the wings or management buyout.Either way something is happening and long may it last!

Can anybody please tell me the size of the pension deficit in this company as I see no reference to it in the latest full year results. Many thanks.

Has anyone got any feedback from the Agm last week? Any information from the Board about trading since the end of June??

We discussed the issue of an uncovered dividend at length and eventually decided that because many of our shareholders hold our shares for income, the cash benefit of say 2.5p dividend rather than 3p was relatively small and we believe the company will perform better in the coming year so rather than alienate our shareholders we would pay 3p but ensure we return to a more comfortable cover in the future

OK The figures are out.
I would have thought it was rather stupid to say the least to pay an uncovered dividend in a business like this. PE is now daft. The only value here is an asset one. I think the price will drop.

yes, I've checked & the figures ARE overdue. with the M M s cutting the price on a daily basis we've either got a 'dying swan' on our hands or an opportunity to add / buy at some point ? but when ? Hopefully, the Board will appreciate the seriousness of the situation & make an announcement this week.

My guess is they will pull the dividend with the next set of results. The results were out this time last year on the 15/9. They are overdue?

Obviously gone quiet recently.Wondered if any one has an information or thoughts about results in a few weeks time.Presumably, because there have been no profit warnings since the the year end (30/06)and Gartmore still holds over 10% of the shares there is some sign of reasonable figures to come.Increased fuel costs will unfortunately bit soon.
