16/2/2022 09:03 | Load shedding due to low dam levels. Monday, February 14, 2022 5:40 PM (Business in Cameroon) - The electricity sector concessionaire, Eneo Cameroon, announces that after the African Cup of Nations (CAN) football which took place from January 9 to February 6, there will be a return of power cuts in the Great North (Adamaoua, North, Far North) due to the accentuated water deficit at the Lagdo dam. “The problem of the hydrological deficit of the Lagdo dam is all the more accentuated and the fragility of the system remains. Also a targeted programming of load shedding in the 3 regions of the north is necessary in order to allow the optimal satisfaction of the needs of both households and industrialists ”, indicates the company. She also explains that to take the bet of energy supply in the Far North during the CAN, industrialists had to partially give up their energy consumption. Thus, certain manufacturers and large customers were curtailed at times of high demand. "Several manufacturers and businesses have agreed to give up their consumption to allow households to experience the matches," says Eneo. However, indicates the company, to limit this shared management of load shedding as quickly as possible and to improve the supply-demand balance in the north of the country, Eneo is currently deploying two solar power plants in Guider and Maroua. These are in addition to three thermal power stations in Guider, Maroua and Kousseri, with a total capacity of 55 MW. In Guider, the thermal power plant and the solar power plant have already been partially commissioned and the first megawatt-hours are injected into the system. Lagdo (major infrastructure to supply the northern part, Editor's note) is facing a drastic drop in water levels. This situation has reduced the production of this infrastructure to only 20 MW, against an installed capacity of 72 MW. | ![]() jaystevens1 | |
