Posted at 10/6/2025 08:54 by gregsc You are probably right. I am also an investor in MAN Group which owns GLG so I have been watching them closely. There have been several instances where GLG shorted a company, then seemed to take their eye off the ball. |
Posted at 10/6/2025 08:32 by eigthwonder a single wrong choice isn’t "a history of poor judgement”. I think this short is in a fund (UK Absolute Value) which has a very good record in the UK small/mid cap hedge fund space (although slightly less good YTD). i actually think shorting VANQ has been a wrong choice but it wouldn’t stop me looking at what else they are up to for good ideas. One thing you learn to accept as a professional investor is that being right 60% of the time puts you close to the top of the performance charts ie being wrong 40% of the time isn’t a disaster. |

Posted at 14/2/2025 12:51 by sigmund freud this is the importance of charts. not that a picture means anything by itself, but what it does tell you is the psychology of investors.it needed to stay above 64p until the end of this week. it now doesn't look like it will. this causes a loss of hope from short term money, and off it goes somewhere else. my guess (which is entirely that) is that it will fall back to near the 200mda around 52p, which was a support level in the autumn. psychologically, that is a time people buy again, not because of the mda but the resistance level, the memory of the price, and that because it has gone up before from then, it is a good time to buy some more. it would still be in a nicely-defined uptrend at that level too, so no point in worrying. ride the trend upwards |

Posted at 22/5/2024 07:15 by oldtimer169 Sbb1xI was merely highlighting the hypocrisy of an investor in BATS passing judgement on Vanquis holders. Anyway, as pointed out the Vanquis of today is very different to the past and l see an opportunity to be part of that journey at an exciting time...as do key players in the company. As always DYOR |
Posted at 20/5/2024 20:17 by jubberjim SmithiesMy opinion hasn't altered on Vanquis It is what it says on the tin It is a doorstep lender I have no interest in buying into a company that preys on the vulnerable and desperate But each to their own If you can make a turn on it best of luck I prefer to take a more high handed approach But even I have failings hence my buying into BATS as an ex smoker but dividends call and I come running. As I said not for this conflicted investor |
Posted at 27/3/2024 06:31 by jubberjim Hopefully the 'Truth' is out there and should be revealed this morning.I wouldn't want to hazard a guess as to how the market will react. Such a thin market and nervous investors has not been good Maybe all the fears will be put to rest today but at what cost Will hopefully put peoples minds and wallets at rest. Good luck everyone. |
