Posted at 10/6/2025 08:32 by eigthwonder a single wrong choice isn’t "a history of poor judgement”. I think this short is in a fund (UK Absolute Value) which has a very good record in the UK small/mid cap hedge fund space (although slightly less good YTD). i actually think shorting VANQ has been a wrong choice but it wouldn’t stop me looking at what else they are up to for good ideas. One thing you learn to accept as a professional investor is that being right 60% of the time puts you close to the top of the performance charts ie being wrong 40% of the time isn’t a disaster. |
Posted at 09/6/2025 11:06 by smithie6 I'm happily holding here........ definitely strong buying actions in recent days & weeks. But holders might want to also look at lse:orch ....which also does lending & which is much more profitable & which is much cheaper wrt TNAV. And ORCH pays a good divi yield, 8%. (Goes ex Divi this week; 2p interim divi) (& the Orchard Funding profitability is happening now, not a case of waiting 1-2 years). On the down side for ORCH it is a microcap, the CEO owns 57% & liquidity is low compared with Vanquis. ----- I hold VANQ & ORCH (much more invested in ORCH) |
Posted at 02/5/2025 13:25 by sigmund freud q1 results out 14th mayreading moneybarn's report i wasn't quite sure what all the intercompany loans were about. which i don't find reassuring. however they repeated that they never entered into discretionary broker commission arrangements. although they are overwhelmed by claims management claims coming in with what they say is little credibility vanq is still in recovery mode and that prevents me putting further cash in just now. i am evens at the current share price around 64p the chart continues to bump up against its resistance level around 65p and twice now there has been strong support when the share price fell heavily. alongside schroders having a very big holding of 18% which has been increasing if it can break above that level there is little to stop a rapid bounce up to around 100p my preferred play in the distressed credit sector is ipf which released an excellent trading report yesterday. one hopes that there might be some themes of relevance which gives a lift to vanq |
Posted at 24/3/2025 10:22 by blackhorse23 Nothing will happen until 2026 -2027 according to latest results, meantime sleep mood , shocking they didn't pay any dividends at all , 2023 they did mention to pay 1p dividend at 2024 then cancelled the dividend at FY results |
Posted at 14/3/2025 08:28 by davius > Blackhorse you like to travel around the BB's knocking other folks stocks i've> noticed. He does. When VANQ and VOD were both around 67p he came on the VOD board to tell us all it was heading to 50p, and of course there were his numerous "I've bought more on this pullback" posts on VANQ. VOD at 72p and VANQ at 46p suggests this wasn't his best call. Still, with VANQ at this level it might be worth a punt for longer term recovery. |
Posted at 07/3/2025 18:43 by wad collector On the subject of dividends , I am not sure that pointing out that Provident used to pay large dividends is very relevant. The last big divi was back in 2017 just before it almost went bust and cancelled the second divi. Sp went from £32 to £8.50 that year long before the more recent share price falls. The last divi of 1p last year was declared in the prelims , and this year the FY results are a week today, and they will presumably feel some institutional pressure to repeat that dividend but I would rather they re-invested as they are not in a secure position with the car claims overhanging. |
Posted at 05/3/2025 07:31 by blackhorse23 Vanquis Bank a dividend stock, listed as 11th best FTSE All-Share index for passive incomeH124, it reported net interest margin income 19% vs LLOY was 3% |
Posted at 26/2/2025 11:00 by sigmund freud agree davius, stonking results from ipf today, expected a better market response. essentially vanq are a similar business, just in uk. hope to see similar results here! ipf didn't have any notifiable shorts, vanq do, so there might well be more shorts under the 0.5% level.vanq results out 14/3. keep an eye out for any rns holdings changes between now and then. |
Posted at 17/2/2025 20:11 by blackhorse23 Vanquis Banking Group's (LSE:VANQ) a dividend stock that caught my eye over Christmas. I noticed that the sub-prime lender was listed as the 11th best on the FTSE All-Share index for passive income. |
