(LON:TRAP) and partner Valiant Petroleum (LON:VPP) updated investors on their operations this week.

On Thursday, Trap and Valiant kicked off drilling operations on the Orchid exploration well, while Xcite received its hotly anticipated approval for the first phase of the Bentley oilfield development.

Trap and Valiant plan to drill the well to a total depth of 9,415 feet, a process which is expected to take 33 days.

Orchid has a gross prospective resource of 38 million barrels of oil.

The operator is Summit Petroleum, which has a 45 per cent stake in Orchid, while the other shareholders include Valiant, which has a 30 per cent stake and Trap has 15 per cent, 5 per cent of which is carried. Atlantic Petroleum has the remaining 10 per cent stake.

For both AIM quoted firms, Orchid kicks off a significant phase of exploration drilling

Through separate programmes the two junior explorers will participate in twelve North Sea wells in total.

other net figures for this years drills are; orchid 9mbo net, timon 3mbo net , tybalt 6mbo net, tryfan net 8mbo, and the daddy hand cross 162mbo net.

remember tybalt has flowed at 5500 bopd so this step out appraisal could result in a upgrade of reserves and most possibly could be a producing field for vpp in the future if conditions are right.

thanks pye- it would certainly help to have those 4mbo, although not a company maker it would give some confidence.
