13/1/2003 11:59 | NEWS RELEASE 2nd January, 2003 UTV WINS PEAK TIME RATINGS BATTLE ON CHRISTMAS DAY UTV secured a massive 46% of peak time viewing on Christmas Day, well ahead of BBC Northern Ireland with a share of 30% and well above the ITV network which secured 36%. The best performing programme of the day in Northern Ireland was Coronation Street with 436,000 viewers and 65% share of viewing compared to Eastenders' 393,000 viewers and a share of 58%. Alan Bremner, Director of Television, UTV says: "This was a tremendous ratings result for UTV and an increase on last year's excellent performance when we secured a 43% share for Christmas night. It shows that Northern Ireland doesn't follow UK viewing trends where BBC1 got a higher share than ITV on Christmas night. "I'm delighted to say that Coronation Street is still Northern Ireland's favourite soap with 43,000 more viewers for its Christmas Special than Eastenders. We look forward to building on this success in 2003." -Ends- For further information contact the UTV Press Office on 028 90 262188 Note to Editors: UK Ratings Figures and Northern Ireland Ratings figures below. 13/1/2003 10:01 | Incidentally, Gain, territory not confined to NI. Also a TV/radio presence in the south. Does tend to get sidelined by mainland UK press though, when comparing broadcasters. Maybe one or two journos will wake up now it's tumbled 30% and still falling fast. | m.t.glass
13/1/2003 09:36 | >gain lmao , the chart backs up the de ramp tho ;) | dodddy

12/1/2003 21:04 | errr, right. You calling it a buy then? | m.t.glass
12/1/2003 20:43 | UTV is a niche play with a niche (NI) audience and therefore not subject to the same degree to competition as are the players on the mainland UK. There is no news or fundamental backing this deramp. Recent volumes insignificant. | gain
