Another below-bid sale just gone through. Looking grimmer by the minute...

I know there are some who were arguing that its dominant position in the Irish/NI market leaves it with fewer competitors than its UK peers, but that certainly doesn't seem to have saved it.

(BBC I think is No2 for Irish viewers, and other commercial channels way behind)

yeah - turned short around 365 after double top and have been adding to short position bit by bit - more yesterday and today.
Forgot about this thread - thanks for reposting it.
Have suitably edited the first post.
WPP chairman recently commented he sees no improvement in advertising revenues for 2003. Could go all the way back to £2 now - p/e at this level far too high considering the worsening state of the economy.

... and not a bad day for those who are short. The chart's looking a tad predictable if you ask me.

Excellent call, matthew. Hope you baled in good time Cat.

Powerful stuff gravity. A sad day for anyone still holding but still ample scope for late shorters methinks.

Doddy - I tend to agree. Been short since September, which is an age for me! A few more cracks appearing today.

Tony, I remember there were big bust-ups between UTV and the unions (BECTU and NUJ) a year or two ago over UTV's proposed pay restrictions/redundancies and a gagging order on employees. Also in relation to the company's apparent disinterest in creating meaningful content of its own. Is that all history now, or still festering?

And how much support (or pressure) does UTV get from its big Canadian shareholder CanWest Global Communications Corp?

I don't know the answers to either, so my own limited short is based mainly on the chart and on UTV's premium to the rest of the market. I guess the price might briefly find support around 315 or 297p perhaps.

matthew what 1,500,000?Chart looks really dodgy, but are there not local cosiderations that leave utv a bit less vulnerable than the big boys?

UTV - Ulster Television. Think there is big downside in this one. GAA CCM also look to be in big trouble with falling AD revenue but Rising production costs. Will be intersting to see how MM's react when the 1,500,000 hit the market.

Having initially posted this in May 2002 as a bullish breakout and "buy", the stock has failed miserably with a double top and the Chart now shows a significant breakout on the downside. IMO The stock is now a "sell" and the MMers certainly dont want em.
