rbryant>> I'm sure he had an extremely accurate idea of the figures, actual and projected. However in the current climate figures, profits, projections, major shareholdings, God, whatever ... mean nothing. Its driven by sentiment and shorters.

I'm not a shorter of ULG, I'm sure (because I drink in some of these establishments) that the figures are good and last year I would have suggested (as I did a few comments earlier) that the price would have risen by quite a bit up to / after results, but now its anyones guess.

Lets not forget the CEO Mr Rankin thought they were value for money at 237 in November, by which time he must have had a fair idea as to how the interim figures would look.

rb >> concure. Also the applications are in for 1.00am licences on N/cle quayside, i know this MAY squeeze there revenue from SEA nightclub, if the applications get approved, but ULG also have Chase (no licence to be granted here because of purchase small print) but they have Jimmyz's, and Johnny Ringos plus if quayside does get it's late licences then that in itself will draw more down onto that circuit with SEA being one of the choices to go to a club after 1.00am.

IMHO they will post better than expected results, but next year MAY be a different storey as there main core area "quayside" is squeezed. it already suffereing from the opening of Tiger Tiger at the opposite end of town, (a mere 800 mtrs, but uphill).

Down, down again, bit here, bit there. Seems tarred with the same brush as other dissapointments in this sector, so if results are good expect a little jump.

How about selling your soul? Buy it back cheap when ULG zooms. Lots of action at URM today.

Mr pedantic here

There = over there
Their = belonging to them

Interims on 26th Feb, got to be worth a punt at this level, but have to sell something else to do it. Lets see how the next few weeks pan out.

Welshanalyst >> they didn't get the licence granted on The Gresham in Jesmond, even tho it was pre 1904. opposition from the residents was strong and they also had support from a local councilor, with c£1m already spent of The Gresham, i'm sure they won't lay down and an appeal is almost centainly on the cards.

They do have a very strong point, should it be used in the case and that Jesmond doen't have a club, but all the hotels do operate late licences for residents. The hotels are spread throughout the street, and by funnelling all "late night" drinkers into one area surley must be more controllable, noise friendlier and the policing will be so much easier. If the club is sold to the residents as a CCTV "big brother" contoller then that might go some way to appeasing them. But the Jesmond crowd are a stubburn bunch.

In general, from experience, "drinking in there pubs" they have been busy and a good write up in last weeks local paper highlighted there success this year.

IMHO the current price is very cheap and taking the market dip and Luminars poor results ULG should be trading at around 220 - 230p. I did put them higher last week, but then hadn't counted of this long bear run.

I do not hold ULG and all above is IMHO of course.

rescuer>> Cheers, you like to live dangerously don't you! In a similar vein, I'm into BBG, OXB and MDY at the moment - just day trading though because its a bit too scary to hold at the moment. Also HOL and IGI - hopefully stmts will be issued soon.

Can't believe S/land again - another defence failure and last minute goal - Jurgen Macho would have saved the last one though. If only.

cygnus, >> take a look at the following PRO (provalis), Lee is also on these, my holding is considerable, the druganalyst put them at 22p on present numbers.

TED (tepnel), i know they are the most ramped share of all time, but they may have turned the corner, hold large amounts of them.

FOG (fusion) check these in detail, good for spiking, Very Cheap IMHO, don't hold at present.

Heard a rumour yesterday that "Metnor", were to buy ULG, which i thought was very odd considering they virtually are the same board of directors and in completley different market sectors. Norstead was also mentioned in the same breath, but again it's the same tie in. I'm checking further into the RUMOUR.

On the Gresham front, i've been informed that ULG spent £1m or thereabouts on the referb before they applied for the licence. So this will obviously bite well into there bottom line for the forthcoming results.

rescuer>> Unfortunately, it is another 9 miles S/E and red/white. Never mind, luckily I'm not a staunch supporter - fairweather really - but it would be nice to see them win, it distracts the daft lads from fighting when they've got something else to concentrate on.

ULG pubs in Sun. seem to be doing well, although there is now a lot of new competition in the same area - the council seems to be allowing them at about 1 per week - well, maybe not so fast.

Got into BP this week thinking how cheap they were at 3.79. Oh, how i laughed when they closed at 3.69 today! Doh!

Cygnus >> does Gateshead still have a team or do i need to look about another 9 miles south east, if so I pray you don't go down although i am black and white to the core. It would be a disater if we had to go a few seasons without great derby matches, and if S?land do go down it's possible they'll do a Barnsley.

With regard to the shrae price (ULG) i don't think Bob and the team need do anything. The price is c60p off it's 12 month high, but the trading statement put's it 25% ahead like for like. So in theory there is no reason why the price shouldn't climb back to 230 - 250p on the run up to the results on Feb 26th.

On the issue of daring, well who knows, the Gresham has probably left them with a problem, although i have been relyably informed today that they will appeal.

On the issue of expansion Pravda came up for sale recently, Lazi want's £500K plus £75K a year rent. pravda, although slightly out of the loop on the quayside could be turned into a brill music venue, but the fact it's on leasehold will deter most buyers.

There is also another issue on expansion, which i can't speak of yet, because it may be only hear-say, not fact, but as my enquiries continue over the next few months i'll post accordanly.

Lee if you would like to give me a ring re the last paragraph you'll catch me in the office on MOnday.

Have a great weekend all.

rescuer>> Hi, yes i'm local and have watched ULG on and off for a couple of years now. However, regarding the Newcastle issue, you might like to look towards the opposing team!

As for ULG, its a bit of a damp squib at the moment. Will Mr Senior etc just let it (the share price) ride and assume it will improve with the market? Or will they try something daring?
