22/3/2011 13:50 | "Coal Will Be the New Gold" | dubwise
19/3/2011 10:18 | The Trolls board trashing, RE. The Spec7 idiot posts 2405, 2407, 2409. Hey troll, clean capture coal is a great alternative technology fuel for me. Eg, look what they are going to do at Longannet. | envirovision
18/3/2011 18:53 | With gas prices likely to stay high, given all the additional demand for gas from Japan and from countries reacting like Germany, coal is likely to be the fuel of choice for generators for some time to come. ARA closed tonight at $127.74 with futures staying firm for the rest of 2011 at a similar level. Looking at the indicative contract prices on p13 of the 2010 Interim Report, such ARA prices at current $/£ of $1.62 should be giving UKC around £62/63 per tonne on contracted tonnage. | warbaby43
18/3/2011 10:41 | Thank you, angelika. But just for avoidance of doubt for anyone else, i am not predicting (unlike Cattles) a large loss on UK Coal! QP | quepassa
18/3/2011 09:35 | My god! The last time I saw QP on a thread of on of my shares a large loss was encountered, Cattles; as predicted all the time by QP. Hope you are right again QP. | angelika
18/3/2011 09:19 | Having just written this post, I see that The FT carries an important article on page 34 headed, "Disaster set to reignite demand for King Coal" citing many of the factors in my synopsis above. The article ends:- ..Beyond the next few months, the potential for a shift away from nuclear power to coal is the buzz among mining executives and traders. " Over the longer-term we see it as very bullish for coal as the 'anti-nuke' groups gain greater voice now woldwide, particularly in Europe", a top coal trader says, voicing a widely held view. As such, some see current events as another sign that the commodity, already reinvigorated by strong demand from developing countries such as China and India, is again King Coal that once dominated raw materials markets." See FT for full article. All IMO. DYOR. QP | quepassa
18/3/2011 08:38 | Germany has taken a massive 5 gig of nuclear generating capacity off-stream for testing. Some commentators question whether they will be brought back into use. Countries around the world will review nuclear plant safety and government nuclear policy. Oil too expensive for power generation . Alternate electricity is still in its infancy but growing fast. This is the perfect storm for black gold:- Fukushima Queensland floods Germany Likely change of nuclear policy in various countries around the world. Carbon credits are pushing much higher already Coal prices look set for a significant rise in my view in the wake of the Fukushima dissater. All IMO. DYOR. QP | quepassa
18/3/2011 07:08 | Rise above it Spec. Be the better man. | beeks of arabia
17/3/2011 23:31 | Sorry beeks I am just one of many who is sick of enviro trashing threads and then taking exception to anyone who posts on his holdings. Yes enviro, i have seen the volume today...134k buys 174k sells..as you say amazing. Beeks, i wish you luck mate, we all have a few dogs in our past as you rightly say :-) I will leave you all for fear of sinking as low as enviro. | spec7
17/3/2011 21:01 | See the volume traded on KOL today, amazing. ps its a shame about troll spec7, a demented moron. | envirovision
17/3/2011 20:55 | Spec - with respect sunshine, you've been on the back end of a few dogs in your time. Fact is, UKC are turning things around, and I for one see some decent value in these over the next few years. | beeks of arabia
17/3/2011 20:51 | No sign of enviro then..lol what a loser :-) Spends his time trashing threads so he can short. lowest of the low IMHO Invest in coal enviro ?? stick some money in peat bogs and the return of the steam engine as well......lol Turn over 316 !! profit= minus 129...brilliant. | spec7
17/3/2011 19:19 | No they wouldn't. Although i'm reliably told that stations in this country have up to 4 backup systems for water cooling. | beeks of arabia
17/3/2011 18:15 | Well we will see what becomes of NP but after three mile island, Chernobyl, the gulf oil spill, acid rain, bird flue, swine flue Aids and so on...I will believe the end of the world when i see it :-) the press and governments cry wolf. Nuclear power is here to stay so i wouldn't go investing in coal fired power stations just yet. the big difference between old style and new style reactors is the old ones could run on without input as you are seeing now in Japan. the new ones need work/ input to keep the reaction going so in a case like this they would have stopped by default. | spec7
17/3/2011 18:06 | Yes there is you're just waiting for the winters in the UK to get so cold and go on for so long that the global warming scam is finally fully accepted as such. edited to add or coal gets so dear TPTB decide they can make money out of it at which point the goalposts will suddenly be moved. | eric76
17/3/2011 17:08 | Dont be so bloody stupid Enviro, unless you can develop carbon capture there is no future what so ever for UK coal fired power stations..jeez you really are a plonker sometimes :-) | spec7
17/3/2011 10:07 | The Japan nuclear disaster will make coal fired power much more attractive again. This can only put upward pressure on the coal price and mean higher long term profits for UK Coal. | dubwise
15/3/2011 21:43 | There are some parallels! | ivancampo
15/3/2011 21:39 | Just like Bolton Wanderers, IC? | warbaby43
15/3/2011 19:46 | Please couls someone post forcast eps? Thanks. Digital look have 25p for next year which can't be correct. TIA. | philo124
15/3/2011 19:42 | I'm afraid more patience is needed WB, that's all....I know it's hard to keep the faith but we will get there. | ivancampo
15/3/2011 19:32 | Disappointing to note that notwithstanding a surge in both gas and coal prices, the UKC share price has gone backwards. The strength of the hardening of coal prices can be seen in the Q3 2011 Rotterdam futures price which stood at $122.70 last Friday and $130.95 tonight. The apparent reluctance to attribute any benefit to UKC from this price surge, perhaps underlines the extent of the task of the new management in convincing the market that the tide has turned and that they have a much more positive story to tell. -------------------- | warbaby43
12/3/2011 12:55 | And the goods news is that coal prices have firmed again, not only with ARA at $123.35 yesterday but futures having moved up as well, eg Q4 2011 on 11th Feb stood at £117.05 and yesterday, 11th March, at $123.85. The full picture being: Q2 11 $122.32 Q3 11 $122.70 Q4 11 $123.85 Q1 12 $123.80 2012 $123.05 2013 $123.59 2014 $125.65 2015 $127.85 With sterling at $1.60, ARA at $123.35 should be giving UKC at least £2.60 gj or around £62.40 per tonne, so with no sign of the pound rocketing against the dollar we've just got to hope that the geology doesn't bite them too hard on the backside for a while and that nobody does anything daft and self-destructive like going on strike. -------------------- | warbaby43 |
